“…clarity helps us remember that all of us, female and male, have been socialized from birth on to accept sexist thought and action” stated in Feminism is for Everybody. At a very young age, parents have embedded sexism in their children through clothing, toys, hairstyles, music, career choices, and so on. Young boys are often criticized or punished for wanting to wear a pink sparkly shirt and are forced to act and look more “manly.” The same goes for girls whose “girliness” doesn’t meet their parents’ expectations. This results in adults whose personalities are based on the characteristics their parents gave them or molded for them from birth. “As contemporary feminism progressed, women realized that males were not the only group in our society who supported sexist thinking and behavior – that females could be sexist as well.”
