The United States gets the majority of its clothing and textile overseas from third-world countries in poor areas. These countries such as India, China, Ethiopia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka allow them to get more products for an extremely low price. Being that the US dollar is worth so much money in third-world countries, they are willing to put up with the terrible work conditions in sweatshops in order to make a wage. These sweatshops often have poor working conditions, unfair wages, unreasonable hours, child labor, and a lack of benefits for workers. Many high fashion brands to this day are still using sweatshops for their companies illegally. The videos about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire were very heartbreaking to watch for those lives were lost in vain. It could’ve been avoided if companies didn’t put their profits over the safety of their workers. People were willing to jump out the windows even if it means they could have a slight chance of survival. That incident should’ve been the turning point for all companies. However, still today they still have their workers working in terrible conditions with many safety hazards for just minimum wages.

Being a black woman in America has a lot of disadvantages. With America being built on the backs of racism, minority groups have been battling hardships and struggles for centuries. Black people have been manipulated and overlooked by white supremacies since the beginning. Black people are constantly being faced with racism, prejudice, discrimination, and so on. Black people are forced to live in the worst communities that are invested with drugs, gang activities, mass incarcerations, poor schooling systems, low health care, low healthy food options, and so on. Due to all these negative aspects in the lives of black people, families are forced to stay and repeat the same cycle. Being a black woman in society is deemed almost as a punishment. Not only am I black but I’m also a woman, the less superior gender in a society that is ruled by white male supremacies.

As a young black woman, I have faced countless racism in my short lifespan. My friends and I have been kicked out of stores and restaurants simply for being black. I have faced multiple microaggressions from teachers and peers in schools. I have experienced white people start snickering or suddenly grab their purses closer to them the second my friends and I walk into the room. Black women are constantly looked down upon and have to fight stereotypes, microaggressions, and prejudice on a daily.

Someone doing what’s best for them and their lifestyle shouldn’t be looked down upon or even be questioned. When it comes to having an abortion, there is no right or wrong choice. People get abortions for different reasons. Many women are simply not ready to have a child. With busy lifestyles such as having jobs or school or taking care of family and even having personal time, having a child doesn’t fit into some people’s daily routine. Some women are already mothers and simply can’t fit another child into their lives or they don’t want to have any more kids. rather than bringing up a child into a world in which their parents wouldn’t have the time for them, it’s better to just get an abortion. Some are not financially stable enough for a child. Many people live in poverty or have to survive on a low income in which they struggle to support themselves and their families. The average cost of raising a child in the US until they are an adult is about $230,000 according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Struggling to provide for yourself financially and having to think about raising and providing for a child can be extremely overwhelming to think of. Rather than raising a child that will experience poverty, homelessness, foster care, child abuse, lack of education it’s better to just prevent it by getting an abortion. Being pregnant a lot comes with a lot of complications due to the massives changes happening to the women’s body. Some complications obesity, diabetes, infections, mental health issues, UTI, anemia and so much more. Being that the fetus puts so much pressure on the human body, it can cause many complications affecting the health of the mother-to-be at risk. Sometimes the best option is to get the baby aborted to save the life of the mother. Teens often get raped and sometimes the best option for them and their families is abortion. I can’t imagine being a kid and getting raped and still having to raise the child. That must be so traumatizing to many young girls who are victims all around the world. Rather than getting into women’s business and banning abortions, men should consider getting vasectomies which is a rather simple procedure. People with uterus don’t impregnate themselves. therefore they should be able to have a say in what they chose to do with their bodies.

Transgender lives matter just as much as any other lives. Someone wanting to change their gender shouldn’t affect their life to the point that they can’t even go out in public. Wanting to express yourself shouldn’t be something that brings harm into your life. Society has been brainwashed to only see things a certain way and to go with the flow but whenever someone wants to express themselves or go against the grain it brings up a lot of unwanted opinions. Gender expression for transgender has been discouraged and discriminated against for decades to the place that trans people are afraid to express themselves. The film depicts all the negative effects transphobia had on the lives of those who are transgender. It’s truly sickening to see how humans can be so cruel with their words and actions just because someone is different from them. Trans lives have been the butt of the joke for years. the media has portrayed trans people in the most negative aspect to display an illusion that being trans is the most unpleasant thing in the world. Transgenders are constantly being discriminated against in society. They face high rates of health disparities from the lack of primary health care, high STI rates, and high suicide rates. They also have high rates of unemployment, homelessness, low education, and poverty. Black and Hispanic transgender people are likely to experience extreme poverty earning less than $10,000 a year. This also leads to them experiencing high rates of physical abuse from participating in sex work, sex trafficking, and other forms of criminal organizations. They also face a lot of physical abuse in their daily lives out in the streets from those who are transphobic. It’s time transgender lives get the representation and equality that they’ve lacked for the past decades. They have been overlooked and ignored by the public for far too long.
