Nature and Nurture have been a popular discussion in the society. The thought that only your genetics, or only your environment can make you who you are is no longer that popular. First, a quick explanation on the difference between nature and nurture. Nature is defined by the genetics, for example, the color of your eyes, your hair, etc. Whereas, Nurture is defined by your environment, for example, the space you were raised and the people in your life. This topic has been discussed for many, psychologists and philosophers. Some philosophers, such as Plato and Descartes believed that certain factors will happen regardless of the environment influences. In the meanwhile, John Locke, believed that everything we are is determined by our experiences in life. In psychology, the debate is very controversial. In branches of psychology such as biopsychology, researchers explore how neutranmissors influence behavior. On the other hand, social psychology researchers look at external factors such as, how social media influence behaviors. In nowadays experts believe that neither Nature or Nurture are more important than other. They believe that both of them are really important to determine who we are and who we will become. I believe in the contemporary view of the Nature vs. Nurture debate, because from my point of view people acquire their traits and behaviors from their parents (genetically), but they also are influenced by the environment and people who they grow up with. For example a child, he/she learned how to talk, walk, eat, and most of the world by watching their parents or caregivers doing it. So, if you turn on the TV with violent movies they will learn that this is normal and ok.
