Summary
Nature refers to our genes, which determine our appearance, eye color, hair color and so on. Nurture refers to the environment that influences our personality, behavior, etc. as we grow up. And there are those in this society who believe that certain factors are naturally occurring, independent of environmental influences, and that all of our behaviors are the result of evolution. They argue that genetic traits are passed from parents to children and influence individual differences that make each person unique. Some people believe that the human mind starts out as a blank of paper and propose the blank slate theory, which means babies were born without any pre-existing knowledge, skills, and had to learn everything through experience, according to this concept, everything we are is determined by our experiences. The argument of nature vs. nurture can be made when it comes to why a person behaves in a certain way, such as when they achieve high levels of academic success cause genetics or environment. But in fact, genetic influences are divided into many parts. In psychology, some scientists believe that students who have good grade in their studies do so because of family genes. In the article said, psychologist Francis Galton argued that intelligence was determined by genetics and individuals to marry and have many children, while less intelligent individuals should be discouraged from reproducing. Both genetics and environment are important in psychology, with biological psychology emphasizing nature, social psychology emphasizing nurture, and behaviorism focusing on the environment. And in child development, some psychological propose that children are born with instinctive mental abilities that enable them to learn and produce language. And through the bobo ball activity we conclude that children can learn dangerous behaviors by imitating the behaviors of others. Both nature or nurture contribute to the development of mental health, including brain and genetic changes. Mental illness can be caused by the environment, traumatic events and life experiences such as PTSD. Different types of mental health treatment rely on nature or nurture to identify any life experiences that may have contributed to the development of mental illness. Those two factors is the most important influence, genetics and environment being the most important. For instance, height is influenced by both nature and nurture factors, and if a child lacks proper nutrition, they may not reach the heights they would have reached if they had grown up in a healthier environment. Nature and nurture play an important role in shaping who we are and how we become. Genetic factors, environmental factors, and how each intertwines to influence personality and human development have led to the nature and nurture debate.
Natural or nurture exists everywhere in our life, for example, a student's excellent performance is only because he has talent? No, but also because he needs to study hard in her usual life. If she does not work hard later in life, it is impossible to get good grades simply by relying on his nature talent. It is difficult to call "nature" or "nurture", genes or environment more important to human psychology. But in general, psychological traits are determined by a balance of interacting genetic and non-genetic influences. So nature or nurture is not necessary to debate. Genes and environmental influences are can not missing anyone.
