Final reflection

From the beginning of the semester till the present, I found that my experience with writing has improved a lot. There was a lot of first-time experience writing that occurred during the semester such as poetry analysis, literary analysis, and even one-act play. There were multiple writing styles I tried out throughout all the essays and paragraphs. I feel like I’ve developed my own writing style by incorporating elements from different styles into my own. Being a writer with his own style of writing just makes things a lot simpler. The journey of these 15 weeks has been resourceful and gave me a structure of how to express my message.

In these 15 week, I was very impressed on my literary analysis. The literary analysis was one of the essay that took me a while to complete. Professor Perry assisted me in revising it three times, for which I am thankful. MLA reference, making linkages more evident, and finding ways to connect portions were some of the challenges encountered while writing this piece. This writing peice isnt my best writing, but it shows the improvement that ive achieved during the course. The improvement was a good part, but the literary anaylsis was also one of the most connection ive created between multiple authors. The literary analysis took me multiple hour writing sessions and was one of the most productive i’ve been in throughout my whole freshman year at BMCC. This task was definitely more tough than others, but I enjoy taking on challenges since it makes things more interesting.

There were multiple challenges throughout the semester. The main challenge was time management and procrastination. Professor Perry trusted her student to finish all their work by the end of the semester and wasn’t strict on late work. If wasn’t for the kindness of Professor Perry’s late work rule, I would’ve probably been in a very bad situation. I tried to assign myself a fixed day to do a particular amount of work at the start of the semester, but it didn’t work well because of interruptions of other challenges. That eventually lead me to have a random schedule and inconsistency, which also lead me to piling up my work. Procrastination was another problem that I struggle with. I tend to scroll over social media, play a game after every paragraph, etc. Procrastination was a problem that slowed my productivity and i blame the pandemic for online courses.

This semester was definitely an experience, but I think it would’ve been better if it was in person. I tend to learn better in person, but during this semester I’m very impressed with my improvement in writing. I went from having no idea how to write an analysis essay to being able to do so more efficiently now. Learning has been difficult due to the pandemic, but Professor Perry made it much more enjoyable.

Marriage Proposal

Marriage proposals can be very problematic, as shown in the play “Marriage Proposal” by Anton Chekov. I’ve seen a lot of marriage proposal on social media and majority of it are focused on the expensive rings, fancy cakes, etc. In today’s society, it kinda show that people focuses more on the value and pictures instead of romance. The outdated proposals rule will always be there, but their will be more up to date version of proposals. Maybe in the future women would be the one propisng men. I think that the main key to a marriage proposal would be communication.

Marxism in the thirteen night

Isamu and Roku both have problems with their wives. Isamu treats her wife Oseki very poorly and is abusive, whereas Oseki and Roku are more romantic. The reason why Oseki is married to Isamu is that his status is better. In my opinion, Oseki would need to suffer through this pain and do what benefits the future. Society back then was very poor for women, they don’t get treated with respect and men don’t care about women’s feelings. I think Oseki learn from her run with Roku that no matter what men she marries, the result of how men treat women is the same.

Alexie Government

When reading “The Trial of Thomas Builds-the-Fire” and “This is What it Means …” by Sherman Alexie, there were two main characteristics in the system, which were discrimination and unjustness. Thomas was treated very unjustly. ” BIA suit said to the others. “What charges should we bring him up on?” ( Alexie 140 ). The BIA suits are trying to set Thomas up just because he is a Native American. “Well, ” they all agreed. “It has to be a felony charge. We don’t need his kind around here anymore.” ( Alexie 140 ). They even try and make the punishment even harsher. It shows that the government dont seem to care about Thomas at all and doesn’t care for his opinion.

Feminism in Ichiyo

Female characters in ” The Thirteen Night” can represent many things, but I mainly think it tries to represent life in the 1800s as a woman. Women in that era didn’t have as much power as they did in today’s world. Their roles during the era were being a housewife basically and doing the cleaning, cooking, taking care of children, etc. Women’s social status was very limited and doesn’t have much of a say. Ichiyo is a very brave woman during that era and she is known for expressing herself in her writing.

In my opinion, parents should be careful about how they speak around children. Children look up to their elders and they usually try to adapt their traits. Children are usually more sensitive when they’re younger which leads to parents needing to talk softish towards them. If parents want to explain how life can be unstable, they can do it slowly by explaining it in parts each day. This also leads to the “teasing” part, I feel like teasing can be used in a fun way, but it can get hurtful when it gets dragged out too long. Children that can handle a bit of teasing can also grow stronger when they become more mature and prepare for the real world. When I was growing up, I was told that honesty is super important, so I think that parents should always be straightforward, but in smaller parts for the children.
