Marxism In The Thirteenth Night

Isamu and Roku are both indifferent in their spouses and reckless with their homes. They are self-centered and only care about their own feelings. Because he comes from a better social group, Isamu’s life is different from Roku’s. Isamu is unhappy in his marriage because he believes his wife Oseki is stupid. That woman could be a queen or the wife of a wealthy man, in my opinion. A woman’s responsibility in such a society would be to ensure that all children are well cared for, that she looks attractive, that her partner’s needs are met, and that her own feelings and desires are not disregarded. Her life would have been different if Oseki had been with Roku, but that isn’t the case.

Good points Natalie, and totally correct that “woman could be a queen or the wife of a wealthy man” if he treated her right. He agreed to all conditions before marriage and he changed after she gave birth to their son, so unacceptable.

    Hello,
I agree with your point that “woman could be a queen or the wife of a wealthy man”. But this only happens when the man treats the woman how she deserves and the way a man is supposed to treat her.
