Anayeli Maximino Discussion 1

Having “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World ” by Gabriel Garcias Marquez as the first story of the course is to open the audience’s mind and think outside the box. I was confused about the short story the first time I read it but after reading it a couple of times and thinking carefully, I came to the realization that it’s more than a tall man found in the sea by the villagers. At the beginning of the story, the women were wondering about what would happen if they made some changes in the village for the tall man to live in. That never occurred to them at all till they saw the man. Towards the end of the story, the villagers make some changes in the village. Considering all of this, literature can change our perspective in many ways and see things differently. Just how the man changed the villagers’ lives. We can all have different takeaways from reading the same story.
