Sajni Forbes week 6

I can draw a similarity from my childhood to “The House on Mango Street.” One particular part that i can personally relate to my early years is “Hairs.” Styling my hair was an ongoing challenge; my aunt was always working  support our family, leaving her with little time to tend to my hair. As a teenager, I observed my peers had wigs and weaves,  I wanted to wear them so bad but my aunts said no because they felt it would make me look too grown or mature than my age  so i just had to get only braid and not too long either so i look school appropriate and with that i started harboring a disdain for its natural state and wishing for something different. This journey for conformity and acceptance in adhering to societal beauty norms is a shared rite of passage in the childhood experiences of many, including myself similar to the journey of the main character, Esperanza.
