Of the story ” Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been” by Korb emphasize this as an “inverted fairytale’ I definitely agree. The author made sure to explain the relations with Connie family. The mothers jealousy, the father’s neglect and the sister’s self -center personality. As a girl like Connie, a person craves validation or some attention. The character Eddie was deemed as a respectful and charming man. He made time for Connie by a simple night outing. Connie had no worries in her mind, she felt safe, A person like Arnold Friend, who conveys obsession, lust and consistency. It may seem attractive or admiring in the beginning, but it leads to danger and the rise of anxiety. Of a young girl like Connie, it shows confusion and questioning. Why me? How does he know all these things? What is going to do to me? This is considered an inverted fairytale because it shows that life is not always going to fall into place. Your mental cravings can lead you in a dark hole.

I agree with everything you said, we’re all human and may want to seek attention from others. Connie needed to be guided the right way on how all attention isn’t good attention. She used this fake persona to catch boys like Eddie into doing things she wanted and moving at her pace. She thought she was in control, but never ran into someone like Arnold yet. He used his gold car, flashy items, and bad boy persona to get her and at first everything was fine. Reality didn’t set in for Connie until Arnold started to act violent and scary, exposing her for who she really was, a child moving to fast.
Ashantay, does this post address the prompt the fairytale interpretation beyond the first line? Is there any reference to the korb article?
