The outbreak of Covid-19 has affected people’s lives in unprecedented ways. The pandemic has had devastating social and economic disruptions that threatened our lives. The pandemic has created many adverse effects, whether restrictions on movements, school closures, bans on social gatherings, or limitations on certain economic activities. The Virus spread fast all over the world. Many people lost their lives, and watching the news on how those people who were affected suffered, they could not breathe which was sad to watch, it has been affecting my life. The global coronavirus pandemic has turned people’s lives upside down since 2019. Since then, the situation has seemed to improve as people have learned to adjust to circumstances, but it still causes much discomfort in society. The pandemic caused not only physical damage but also spread significant mental distress among people. It has triggered unconscious reactions to the daily phenomena; the quarantine exposed numerous childhood traumas and in-home conflicts. The pandemic made me reevaluate my principles and attitudes to numerous aspects of life. The vaccine that they developed was very helpful somehow. According to the story ” Oedipus the King” during that time the people were not really happy, the city of Thebes is suffering terribly. Citizens are dying from the plague, crops fail, women are dying in childbirth and their babies are stillborn. they needed Their king which was Oedipus who had once saved them from the tyranny of the terrible Sphinx, that time they needed Oedipus to deliver them from the plague unfortunately, this time they did not have any help, the king broke their trust and did not even want him to be king anymore because he is not useful as he was before.

Hi Manika! I agree with your idea of how the citizens were asking for help from the king but he did nothing. The living experience of the citizens is the same as what we lived in. As I said in my post, many people have been mentally and emotionally affected by this. As well as people passing away. Not many people had resources to help them which made them feel helpless just like the citizens of Thebes. Oedipus didn’t do anything and just denied the truth while everyone was trying to open his eyes.
Hi Anayeli, that is precisely what happened, that was an awful situation to watch and to experience.
Manika, aren’t you being harsh toward Oedipus? Doesn’t he try everything in his power to get to the bottom of the plague? He searches for the truth, resulting in his own downfall.
Good afternoon Instructor Conway, he did try but this time it was different, and it is awful that the king did not even try, instead of helping these people he led them to fail, betrayed them, and even broke their trust.
