Jasmin Abarca- What is feminism?

Feminism means to me can be defined as being about all genders based on equal rights and the opportunities to have in general during lifetime. It is known for respect from women’s experiences, identities, knowledge and strengths, to earn the power for women who earned their full rights. Decades ago, it was different and hard to believe what we got today and best known are the ones who stood to this day being recognized based on past generations like Lucy Stone, Susan B.Anthony, Matilda Joslyn Gage, Abby Kelley Foster, and Sojourner Truth who stand from women’s rights movement from 1848-1998. It was a long journey and I feel more grateful for the ladies who stood up and believed in their hard work for them and for us. I do consider feminism because it allows me to be myself as long as I can handle things in my own way, there’s a way to believe in me. Of course, I will get the help I need to process to be more mature and become more prepared as I want to discover more meaning of my own feminism. Life will go for me throughout it and the best of me will rise as time goes by and as I’m getting older. Adichie defines feminism related to equal rights and opportunities. It defines anyone, especially women. She encourages women’s experiences, identities, knowledge and strengths, especially the courage for empowering all women for their rights and capabilities. Based on changes from politics, as she mentions, “But what matters even more is our attitude, our mindset, what we believe and what we value about gender. It defines us to become stronger and believe in our future and what we really want in life as it became the main reason for her grandmother to give a lifetime to become a brilliant woman. It also led to Adichie to become herself a feminist during the times of her best friend, Okuloma from many years ago. She considers him as a true brother. She wants to share her own experience and perspective as she leads her audience to understand the someone on the other side of the argument to see for “We Should All Be Feminists” and she really defines feminist as “a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes”. Don’t lead what’s different but what’s fair for both genders.
