Letter to Adichie

Dear Chimamanda Adichie,

After watching your TED Talk, “We Should All Be Feminists,” I felt compelled to reach out and express my gratitude for your powerful words. As a male college student, your message struck a chord with me, particularly your call for gender equality and the importance of embracing feminism.

Your talk encouraged encouraged me to reflect on my own experiences and beliefs. Growing up, I often felt pressure to conform to traditional notions of masculinity, which sometimes meant suppressing my emotions and avoiding anything considered “feminine.” Coming to grips with and accepting the shortcomings that society would say I have has definitely been a process, but also a worthwhile one. Your words reminded me of the importance of breaking free from these limiting gender roles and embracing authenticity.

Because of that, your emphasis on the universality of feminism resonated deeply with me. It’s not just a women’s issue—it’s about equality for everyone. Your talk has inspired me to become a more vocal advocate for gender equality and to challenge outdated attitudes and stereotypes.

Thank you for your courage, wisdom, and advocacy. Your TED Talk has sparked meaningful conversations and reflections among my peers, and I’m committed to continuing this important dialogue.

Warm regards,

Jahniko Steele
