Summary
1) Sharon Nicholls had confidence when it came to her academic skills and her writing abilities overall. This all lasted when she took the Standardized writing proficiency test, she took it and failed the writing test twice. According to the text, she said "Apparently I told myself the people grading the test didn’t have the slightest clue about what constituted good writing”. Meaning she lost confidence and left doubtful.
2) I think she found the standardized tests challenging but that's for the writing part. Other than that, for the other sections it seems she had no problem with those specific sections.
3)Nicholls was always a skilled writer, she always did well in class and has been in the honor roll too. But then she had to take her proficiency test and failed at the writing section. This made her think she was not a capable writer. Then she realized that it's mostly about the standardized testing structure that she didn't comply with, not her actual writing abilities. She always received A's and her teachers liked her writing. She even had one of her poems shown on Tv. All of those events made her gain back confidence and eventually passed the test. She never looked at writing the same.
4) I would encourage her to continue improving her skills and continue writing and to not be to hard on herself when it comes to test results.
5)Yes, i always had this doubtful mindset of my abilities as a writer because most of the time i don't meet certain expectations when it comes to essays or writing in general, makes it so difficult to pass those challenges. This is my second time taking ENG101 course and i still find it challenging but I know I can overcome those challenges.
6) I am confident with my writing, I can explain and express myself in writing but when it comes to essays and writing prompts, I can't. Sometimes I can manage to meet requirements but most of the time I be having trouble displaying the correct format or structure of a writing.
