Letter of advice- Melanie Olivares Santana

Dear upcoming freshman’s of BMCC,

First and foremost I want to wish you all good luck and welcome to your first semester here. I know college may sound complicated and confusing. Your most likely feeling nervous but there’s nothing to worry about, with this letter you’ll be informed and by the end of it you’ll feel confident and better about your first semester here. I’ll be giving you a handful of tips so you can succeed every expectation you or your professor may have. Tip number one: Try to get a schedule that works for you. Some classes might be online, in person or a mixture of both. You should be familiar in knowing how you learn and if you think online isn’t going to help you succeed than you should take in person or vice versa. If you’re working at the moment try to get classes that fit your requirements. Tip number two: Try to keep a balance for every class. My recommendation is to take four classes your first semester so you can get a hang of it so it doesn’t get too stressful unlike having five or six classes. Tip number three: work on your time management try not to get classes that go back to back especially if those classes are in different campuses. You don’t want to be late nor do you want to miss any important classes details. Tip number four: ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS reach out to your professors if you’re feeling stuck wether it’s an assignment or about the class in general. Bmcc has a lot of resources for us to use that are very helpful and beneficial. So don’t hesitate to every go out of your way to find the help you need. Tip number five: Just have fun! It’s all about the experience, don’t stress too much!
Sincerely, Melanie Olivares Santana
