Tips for freshman

A few tips I would give to the incoming freshman are to embrace new experiences- College is a time of growth and exploration. Try new activities, join clubs, and meet new people. Step out of your comfort zone and make the most of the opportunities available to you.

Manage your time effectively-College can be demanding, so it’s important to prioritize your commitments. Create a schedule, set goals, and practice good time management skills to balance academics, social life, and self-care.

Seek support when needed- Don’t hesitate to reach out for help when you need it. Whether it’s academic support, counseling services, or guidance from professors, there are resources available on campus to assist you.

Take care of your well-being- College can be stressful, so prioritize self-care. Get enough sleep, eat well, exercise, and find healthy ways to manage stress. Remember to take breaks and practice self-compassion.

Build relationships- College is a great opportunity to form lifelong friendships. Be open to meeting new people, attending social events, and join clubs or organizations that align with your interests. Building a support network can enhance your college experience.

Stay organized and stay on top of deadlines- College comes with a lot of deadlines and responsibilities. Use a planner or digital tools to keep track of assignments, exams, and other important dates. Stay proactive and avoid last-minute stress.

Take advantage of resources- Colleges offer a wide range of resources, such as libraries, career services, tutoring centers, and more. BMCC has all the resources you’ll need.
