In the article “Snapchat Wants You to Post. It’s Willing to Pay Millions”, the author introduces the readers to a new snapchat feature called “Spotlight” where people can share short videos about any content and gain a large audience. A lot of young people have benefited from this new feature. Cam Casey is one of the primary examples. He randomly uploaded a short Youtube experiment which went viral. In a matter of two weeks, snapchat called Casey telling him he was going to make hundreds of thousands of dollars. Casey, being opportunist of his early success, posted as many as 120 stories in one day. By Tuesday he already earned about $3 million just by uploading videos using this new feature. Mr.Casey is just one of thousands of people around the world that are gaining income through snapchat. Another example is Andrea Romo. She was already a snapchat user but she never thought that anything like that would happen. She posted one video and she earned half a million dollars. Snapchat is very different than any other social media app. According to the author “The primary difference on spotlight is the absence of public counts or comments. And when videos go viral, the creators make money, even if they are not influencers.” (Lorenz,5) This quote shows how great of an opportunity “Spotlight” is, meaning anybody can make “easy” money. Katie Feeney, an 18 year old has earned over $1 million from snapchat. Feeney earning this amount of money made her think about college choices that were impossible before. This new snapchat feature opens a lot of opportunities for the youth. “Spotlight” is a good life changing experience. Many other examples are Joey Rogoff, he is a tiktoker and a snapchat user already but he highly believes that many people are going to switch to other platforms referring to snapchat specifically. He believes snapchat is easier than any other social media platform. He does suggest people to just go for it and do it. Snapchat is definitely taking away from tiktok and all these people are expressing how much they enjoy it. However, the more people, the more famous, more competition equals less money.
Personally, I use social media a lot! I am very active. I post quotes, pictures, videos however I don’t post personal things just because social media isn’t really a safe place. I’ve had snapchat since 2017 and I can honestly say it’s a cool app where people vibe without saying too much. I use Whatsapp, Instagram, Threads, Youtube, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, tiktok..etc. I really enjoy my time on social media and after reading that I can gain money just for posting a random video on “spotlight” I feel like I have an opportunity to change my life around and see where things go.

I like that you added a lot of the names of the people who’ve used Spotlight – as well as sharing their perspectives on using the app in general. It’s funny that we’re polar opposites when it comes to social media! What is your favorite app out of all of them? And how long do you engage with this certain app? I personally use TikTok the most. Overall I really liked your writing! And the use of quotes.
