How does the author feel about her writing abilities?
The author seemed to have a lot of faith in her writing skills. It was an area where she felt sure of herself, like she could handle any writing challenge thrown her way. "I surely spelled every word correctly, used good grammar, and even used big words in the context" This shows that she was 100% sure about passing, especially writing. But that standardized test threw her off. it didn't line up with her self- assessment, and that dissonance really shook her. It's a reminder of how sometimes, the methods we use to measure abilities can miss the mark and not capture someone's true talents.
If you were Mrs. Brown, the author's English teacher, what would you say when the author asked:" How can I get A's in all my classes but fail the writing part of the proficiency test twice?"
- I would probably be like " I can totally understand your frustration. It must be confusing to excel in your English classes but struggle with the writing part of the proficiency test. As Mrs. Brown, I would say that the proficiency test. I would say that the proficiency test may have different requirements or expectations compared to your regular English classes. It's possible that the test focuses on specific writing skills or formats that you might need more practice with. Don't worry though, with some extra guidance and practice, I'm sure you'll be able to improve your writing skills and ace that proficiency test.
Retell the author's journey as a writer.
- The author's journey as a writer sound like it was full of ups and downs, but ultimately very rewarding. She started with a strong belief in her writing skills, backed by her academic achievements. However, when faced with standardized tests, the results didn't reflect her true talent, which was super discouraging. Despite that, she didn't give up. She continued to write and pursue her passion, showing that resilience and dedication are key. It's a reminder that tests don't always measure one's real potential or passion.
How does the author feel about standardized test?
- She seems to have mixed feelings about standardized tests. On one hand, she acknowledges that tests can provide some measure of a student's knowledge and skills. But on the other hand, she also recognizes that tests have limitations and may not fully capture a student's abilities or potential. It seems like the author believes that there is more to a student's education and growth than just test scores.

Hey Mazida, I really enjoyed reading your post. I totally agree with everything you said. I answered the same question as you which is the how she felt about standardized test and you do have a point and I didn’t notice that. She did have mixed feelings because at a certain point she did acknowledge that the test is important it “proves” the student’s intelligence and skills meaning she was also excited to take it thinking she’ll pass. However, on my post I didn’t say that I only looked at the downside where she lost her passion for writing. Great Job!
