Great!
Hey all! I participated the Writing Center Orientation at “Friday, February 2nd at 10:00am (Online)”, and this is my summary of the brief report:
1. Try using your camera during online tutoring to make it feel more like you’re in a classroom. It’ll help you participate better.
2. If you need help with stuff like writing cover letters, resumes, or applying for scholarships, the writing center also is a great place to go.
3. If you only want to improve your grammar or writing skill, just bring your own articles to the tutoring sessions.
4. They have a limit of one hour a day and two sessions a week, which adds up to eight sessions a month. Remember to cancel if you cannot attend.
5. Take it easy for our best be well, be responsible, start off with shorter sessions, like maybe just half an hour. (And to myself, too :>)
Thanks–I like the idea of online tutoring with the camera on to help better connect with a tutor.

I attended the Writing Center Orientation on February 1,2024 at 4pm with Igwe J. Williams. We discussed how to set up an appointment for tutoring with the writing center. You have to go to Upswing and use your BMCC credentials to log in. Once logged in, you can filter your settings for what you want. You type in writing center, it will give you a list of tutors that are available. Once you find a tutor you want, you can select a time and day to meet with the tutor. They have an option for in-person or online and it is whatever you can do. You are also able to attach the assignment ahead of your session for the tutor to go over. Once scheduled for your appointment, you can go back to the home page and scroll down, there it will tell you that you have an appointment with the tutor, date, and time. It will also send you a reminder in your email before the session. Igwe J. Williams also gave important contact information to us. The Writing Center email is Writingcenter@bmcc.cuny.edu and telephone number is (212) 220-1384, Writing Center Interim Director email is Iwilliams@bmcc.cuny.edu, Upswing for Online Tutoring email is http://www.Bmcc.upswing.io, Upswing Tech Support (Howard Harris) email is Hharris@bmcc.cuny.edu, and School Accounts (Email, Portal, etc) email is servicedesk@bmcc.cuny.edu and phone number is (212) 220-8379.
