In the class interview, many students used the platform Instagram and when asked if they would be able to stop using IG, half said yes and half said no. Many students stated they used the platform daily and they know social media is bad for them, but they still stay on it. In “Snapchat Wants You to Post. Snapchat gets content creators and famous people to upload content to get more influencers to join Snapchat. In “As Digital Activists, Teens of Color Turn to Social Media to Fight for a More Just World”, Dominique Skye McDaniel conducts interviews with four children who use social media in a productive way to advocate the injustices in society. In “Imapct of Social Media on Youth by Katanu Mbev TEDxYouth@BrookhouseSchool.”, Mbev speaks on the effects social media has on the youth and their mental health. Three stressors caused by the excessive misuse of social media are young people tend to compare themselves to others on social media which creates insecurities, social currency happens when our values are based on how much engagement is received, and fomo which creates anxiety due to the fear of missing out. I will be using this in my informative essay to inform people about the positive effects of using social media and how it can be beneficial to young people if used in a positive way.
