Module Objectives

In this module you will:

  1. Explore baby’s infant cognitive development
  2. Brainstorm how infant teachers can support a baby’s cognitive development
  3. Examine math skills for infants
  4. Analyze how infant teacher can embed math skills into infant classrooms
  5. Write an objective, detailed, non-judgmental observation of an infant

Activity #2: Observation of an Infant Paper

In this paper, you will continue to develop your muscle as an observer.  This Observation of an Infant Paper involves writing an ~3 page paper (type written, double spaced, standard 1″ margins) summarizing your observation of an infant.  The following steps will help you construct your paper:

  1. Review your field notes from your observation of an infant
  2. Identify which 6 vignettes, or mini-stories, from the observation that you believe are most important to describing who the child and family.
  3. Each vignette should describe the baby’s actions, reactions, and/ or interactions with their environment (person, object, etc.) including routines.
  4. Use your observation field notes to construct your Observation of an Infant Paper
  5. The resources below may help you develop your Observation of an Infant Paper.
