In this module you will:

  • Identify strategies to use when faced with differences and tensions with families
  • Explore what to do when tensions with families become conflicts
  • Brainstorm how to handle conflicts with families
  • Create your Group Zine
  • Reflect on your experiences in ECE 209

Activity 1 #: Tri-Semester Survey Final Week

Complete the Tri-Semester Survey: Final 10.  Submit a photo of the last page of the survey on Blackboard for ECE 209-Seminar (in the Assignments section, under ‘Tri-semester Survey: Final Week’) to earn 0.25 points.

Activity #2: Reflecting on Conflicts

Reflect on and answer the following questions

  1. Describe a conflict you observed or were involved in.
  2. What was the result or conclusion of the conflict?
  3. What could the parties have done to avoid the conflict or de-escalate the conflict?
  4. How do you think the following conflicts should be handled:
    • Jameel’s family is upset & does not feel the infant teacher is giving Jameel enough time to eat because Jameel comes home each day with 2/3 of the lunch uneaten
    • The infant teacher is upset because they have asked Kiara’s mom to bring in more diapers, and Kiara’s family repeatedly forgets
    • Entisar is upset with her co-teacher Roberto, because Roberto creates all of these messy play activities that leave the classroom and babies very messy

  • What would you say to the family?
  • What are some of the concerns a family/ teachers may have around the issue?

Activity #4: Group Zine Project

Continue working on your Group Zine Project this module.  What should you do?

    1.  Go to your group’s Google folder — I emailed you the link
    2. Look for the document titled “Module 14”
    3. Based on your assigned color, identify your role on the ‘Module 14″ document
    4. Complete the task assigned to your role
    5. Start creating your Group Zine!!!  I explain how to develop your actual zine in this video:

Activity #5: Completing Modules on OpenLab Self-Assessment

Follow these steps to complete the Completing Modules on OpenLab Self-Assessment:

    1. Download or save the document to your device.
    2. For each element (row) on the rubric, indicate which column you would put yourself by changing the text color, circling, or highlighting the text
    3. Answer the Reflection Questions at the bottom of the rubric
    4. Save the document again
    5. Submit the document on Blackboard for ECE 209-Seminar (in ‘Assignments’ under ‘Completing Modules on OpenLab’)
    6. If you cannot save the document to your device
      1. Open a new document on your device
      2. Copy the Reflection Questions, below the rubric, from the Completing Modules on OpenLab Self-Assessment
      3. Review the rubric, for each element (row), identify which column you would put yourself
      4. Answer the Reflection Questions on the document on your device
      5. Save the document on your device
      6. Upload the document to Blackboard for ECE 209-Seminar (in ‘Assignments’ under ‘Completing Modules on OpenLab’)
