Module 5 Assignment #2: Self-Help Skills (6/8-6/10)

 

  1. How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?
  2. Review the Power Point.
  3. Pick 1 age group [infant- toddlers (0-36 months), preschool age children (3-5 years old), or young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade)] and pick 1 self- help skill (eating, grooming, hygiene, or daily chores). What can children in the age group you selected do in the self-help skill you picked?  For example, if you picked YOUNG SCHOOL AGE and DRESSING, describe what abilities young school age children have in regards to dressing themselves.  What can the children do independently? What might they need help with?
  4. To teach self-help skills we break down the skill into smaller, manageable parts. Think of a self-help skill you do every day. What are the steps you take to complete self-help-skill?  List the steps – be specific and descriptive as possible! (see example below)
    1. Pick up your toothbrush.
    2. Turn on the water faucet.
    3. Rinse your toothbrush.
    4. Pick up your toothpaste.
    5. Open the toothpaste.
    6. Squeeze out some toothpaste onto the toothbrush head.
    7. Brush your teeth
    8. Spit.
    9. Turn on the water faucet.
    10. Rinse the toothbrush.
    11. Place the toothbrush back in its holder.
    12. Pick up a cup.
    13. Fill the cup with water.
    14. Rinse your mouth with water.
    15. Spit out the water.
