Module 5 Assignment #2: Self-Help Skills (6/8-6/10)

  1. How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?
  2. Review the Power Point.
  3. Pick 1 age group [infant- toddlers (0-36 months), preschool age children (3-5 years old), or young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade)] and pick 1 self- help skill (eating, grooming, hygiene, or daily chores). What can children in the age group you selected do in the self-help skill you picked?  For example, if you picked YOUNG SCHOOL AGE and DRESSING, describe what abilities young school age children have in regards to dressing themselves.  What can the children do independently? What might they need help with?
  4. To teach self-help skills we break down the skill into smaller, manageable parts. Think of a self-help skill you do every day. What are the steps you take to complete self-help-skill?  List the steps – be specific and descriptive as possible! (see example below)

    1. The techniques i identified in module 1 to be successful in an on-line class is working because try to do my work before due date and i try to anticipate connections problems and anticipate problems i can encounter What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110? i can set aside more time for work to be done.
3-4. preschool age children (3-5 years old)
the self help skill i picked is hygiene (washing hands)
The children can put soap on by them selves. They might need help with turning on the faucet.

The steps to complete the self help skill are
    1.turn on the faucet
    2. wet hands
    3. apply soap
    4.rub the soap into hands
5.in between fingers, palms, back of hands
6.rinse soap off with warm water
    7. shake and dry with a paper towel

Hey Emily, I’m glad your techniques are working out for you. I like how you mentioned children might have problems turning on the faucet. One way parents can fix that issue is by possibly putting a step next to the sink that the child can place in front of the sink whenever they need.

      1. Maria Kaye

        Hi Emily,
I love your steps, however maybe it would be helpful to add steps to know how to use different soaps. For intense is it a bar of soap or is it a bottle that they would have to pump. Even if it’s a bar of soap teaching them how to use the soap or use the pump. Maybe also teaching them which side of the faucet is hot and cold, to prevent them from burning their hands if they are attempting this on their own.

      Hi Emily

I enjoyed reading the self help skill you chose. Washing hands is something I feel is very important and encourage children to do every morning before starting their day. The steps you describe in doing this task were clear and in good chronological order. I would like to add on something at the end that I hope would will be helpful “dispose paper towel in garbage can and make sure not to touch the trash can lid.”
In my school we have mechanical garbage cans with steel pedals to avoided children from touching the garbage can. In many occasions children worked very hard washing their hands and then they ended up touching the the trash can lid with their hands instead of using the steel pedal on the bottom. I remember for the first few weeks of school I had to give them friendly reminders about this subject but was happy to seea few weeks later how they were able to remember this routine and started using the steel pedal instead. I know not all garbage cans will be the same but reminding them about this could be helpful. Thanks for sharing Emily =)

Some techniques I identified in modules 1 to do good on line classes has benefited me in a good way so far. How? Because I try to stay consistent and do my classwork either ahead of time or before the due day has arrive.
What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110? staying more on top of work asking more questions and reading carefully taking all information in to deeper thoughts

I chose to look at preschool group ages 3-4

    Self care and Hygiene
children can blow there nose own there own, use soap on there own and wash hands
    – turning on the water own medium cool and hot
    – wet hands damply
    – apply soap
    – deeply rubbing the soap into there hands
    – front and back
    – wash of soap completely
    – shake hands over sink
    – grab a towel or paper and dry hands

    1. How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working?
Techniques are working great, just that it’s a little changeling at times.

What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?
I need to make sure I stay on top on work and turn things in on the due date or before. I’m worried that I would fall behind, so I’m trying my best to stay on top on my work for the most part.

Preschool age children ( 3-5 years old)
    Hand washing.

What can the children do independently?
They can apply soap to their hands.

What might they need help with?
They may need help with finding the right water temperature at the stink.

Steps to complete self help skills.
    1. Ladder hands together with soap
    2. Sing happy birthday song while washing hands
    3. Wet hands a little to get the soap fully applied
    4. While ladder hands, clean under the finger nails, wrist, palms and back of the hands
    5. Rinse hands off
    6. Dry one hand at a time with paper towel
    7. Use the paper towel to hold the faucet to turn it off
    8. Throw paper towel in the garbage

    1. sydnie d

Hi Keneshia, you mentioned that children might need help with finding the right temperature when washing their hands and that is so true! Some children turn either the hot or cold water all the way up which results in them washing their hands too quickly.

    2. Maria Kaye

      Hi,
I like how you added step 3. But don’t forget to wash the thumbs!!! In our class we add an extra step before your step 6, we ask the children to shake their hands off over the sink, in order to keep the floor dry while they get a paper towel or wait for one to be given to them.

    1. The techniques I identified in module 1 are helping me. I still have work to do when it comes to following my schedule exactly because I find that when I miss one thing or wake up an hour or so later, maybe staying up late the night before, I am thrown off track for the rest of the day. One thing I need to change is my sleeping schedule, I need to start going to sleep at reasonable times so I do not sleep into the late morning.

    3. Infant/toddlers (0-36 months) The self-help skill I chose is daily chores, more specifically cleaning up toys.
Children in this age range can pick up toys and throw them in baskets by themselves, they will need help with putting the toys in the proper box and maybe even putting the box away depending on the set up. Assigning color boxes to specific types of toys can be helpful, but not creating so many categories. Maybe just blocks and legos in the red box, dolls and action figures in the blue box, car in the yellow box. And constant reminding and showing the children what toy goes into what box can be helpful.

    4. Making the bed
    1. Take the pillows off the bed
    2. Take the comforter off the bed
    3. Take the sheet off the bed
    4. Shake out the sheet
    5. Locate the sides making sure the long side of the sheet will be aligned with the long side of the bed.
    6. Spread the sheet on the bed
    7. Straighten and smooth the sheet out
    8. Fold the top of the sheet over so a small rectangle portion of the bed is exposed
    9. Lift a corner of the mattress
    10. Tuck the ends of the sheet under the mattress
    11. Repeat steps 4-8 with the comforter
    12. Pick up the pillows
    13. Fluff the pillows by grabbing both sides and pulling it apart
    14. Place pillows in the rectangle space at the head of the bed

    1. Maria Kaye

      Hi Sydnei,
aside from the step listed above what skills would you focus on is you notice a child have trouble with the use of their hands, and having trouble following the steps you have provided for them?

  5. Maria Kaye

The skills learned on Module 1 are helping me be and keep organized, specially during this very strange time we are living. I am more observant of my peers, surrounding and learning a lot about how I carry on during my work hours with students. I am able to point out some details i wasn’t aware of before, I can better assist my 1:1 and use proper language when communicating with parents. I am learning still how to time manage, and prioritize what needs to get done during the day. Learning how to navigate different modules ans assignments is something I am still working towards. I need to change the way I get so stressed out about certain assignments, how to properly plan out how to deliver my answers to get my point across, interact with my classmates more, be more verbal about their work. I need to ask more questions about their work and thinking and their process.

    0-36 months: Feed themselves
    1. make sure plate is in hands reach
    2. get utensil
3.pick one of the foods to eat first
    4. get a tripod grip on the mid line of utensil
    5. look where the desired food is
    6. reach over to food
    7. bring utensil to hover above food
    8. use wrist to maneuver motion
    9. tilt wrist down
    10. get utensil to touch the food
    11. either scoop it or piece the food with fork
    12. pick up utensil with food
    13. bring it to mouth
    14. put in mouth
    15. pull utensil our of mouth
    16. chew
    17. place utensil back on plate

    1. Yasmina Nait Slimane

      hi Maria
I agreed that learning how to communicate with parent is an important point in our career as teacher. because knowing how to communicate with them helps to build trust and thus open the horizons for cooperation to support child

    2. Camila Polo

      Hi Maria,
Learning how to navigate different modules and assignments is something I am still working towards as well. Last week I was having a hard time with our paper, so I decided to reach out to the professor, thankfully I received clear instruction which cleared a lot up for me.
      -Camila

      1. Maria Kaye

Hi Camila, I also had a hard time with it. We are so fortunate to have an amazing professor that is willing to help us out. I also think writing papers at times can be a bit scary an overwhelming not knowing what is expected of us for our first assignment. I am glad you were able to get a more clear understanding of our previous observation paper.

    Module 5 assignment 2
    1. How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?

The techniques that I identified in module 1 are working great. Even though the beginning was confusing a little bit and stressful because of the accumulation of tasks and limited time, I did manage my time at a certain point, my post-it note are a successful reminder and I feel more confident doing my work. It was just a matter of persistence, engagement, patience, strength and certainly positivity. By keeping working with this characteristic I will ensure successful in ECE.

    2. Review the Power Point.

    3. preschool age children (3-5 years old): I chose DRESSING preschool age children could be dependent at certain point in dressing. For example, three-year-old able to put a t-shirt sometimes with a little bit help, they are also able to put on shoes and socks. However, they might need help to put on the correct orientation for the left and right for shoes as well as they might need help to tie it. Also, they might need help to find the correct orientation for the heel in socks. They are Able to zip and unzip a jacket if the shank is already connected. Four Years old Able to insert the shank together to zip up a jacket, put paints and t-shirt properly tie shoes. Also, they are capable to place socks on with appropriate orientation. Five Years are Able to dress independently.

    1. How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?

In module #1 I wrote that in order to be successful in an online class I must write important dates on my phone such as due dates. Another technique I wrote about was reading the syllabus thoroughly to become familiar with everything. By doing these two things it has really helped me succeed in ECE-110, I get reminders on when things are due and by reviewing the syllabus, I know exactly what is expected of me. One thing I would add in order for me to succeed is to do work every night or day for about an hour so that you aren’t overwhelmed the day before something is due.

    Young school age- putting away toys after playing;

Child can independently put small toys in large bins, put stuffed animals on bed or where they belong and can pick up coloring equipment.
Child may need help picking large toys up or moving heavy objects out of the way.

3.To teach self-help skills we break down the skill into smaller, manageable parts. Think of a self-help skill you do every day. What are the steps you take to complete self-help-skill? List the steps – be specific and descriptive as possible!

    Washing and moisturizing my face;
    -turn faucet on
    -adjust the temperature
-cup both hands under water to gather water
-bring them up to your face and wet face
-put face wash on both hands
-apply on face in circular motion
-wash face by gathering water in hands
    -dry face with small towel
    -open moisturizer
-grab a pea size amount with pointer ringer
-apply dot on each cheek, nose chin and forehead
-using both hands spread moisturizer evenly in circular motion

      Hi Camila,
Getting reminders on upcoming assignments does sound like a very helpful way to strategize your time and keep yourself on top of your work. This can be helpful especially when ones schedule is very tight and needs to meet deadlines at a very fast pace at school and work. I believe if I can manage to do my assignments by small chunks throughout the week, it will be a more manageable. I will work on this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Camila!

    1. How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? Ehh, my techniques are a bit iffy. I am trying to get the hang of it but often find myself struggling.

    2. What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?
I need to make sure I stay on top of my work and try to be strict with the due dates, maybe lie to myself and say they are due a day before they actually are due?

    3. I chose an infant: 4 month old and feeding

    The Steps we complete is:

-Take clean bottle add 6 oz of water
-Add 2 scoops of powdered milk and 1 scoop of baby cereal
    -shake well
-take a baby spoon, add half a spoon of peanut butter.
-give baby spoon and allow baby to self feed peanut butter
-when baby has ate half of peanut butter, give baby milk
-allow baby to hold onto bottle
-remove bottle when its half empty and allow baby to finish peanut butter
    -allow baby to finish bottle.
    -burp baby
    -Clean up baby and dishware

1.How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?

    Answer:

Techniques to make me successful for on-line classes are working’ I did have a family emergency which I was able to complete the last assignment on time but what I need to do more is giving myself more confidence. Just because I didn’t complete a assignment on time it will discourage me just a little bit and lose hope. But I cant let things get overwhelming I will keep doing what works for me which is being 3 steps ahead. but overall they are working great, just that it’s a little over whelming at times.

3.Pick 1 age group [infant- toddlers (0-36 months), preschool age children (3-5 years old), or young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade)] and pick 1 self- help skill (eating, grooming, hygiene, or daily chores). For example, if you picked YOUNG SCHOOL AGE and DRESSING, describe what abilities young school age children have in regards to dressing themselves. What can the children do independently? What might they need help with?

Answer: infant- toddlers (0-36 months) and eating , the ability a toddler may have when it comes to eating is they are able to pick up the food with their hands, they are able to grip and place into their mouths on their own. They are also able to let us know if they like the food or if they food may be too cold or too hot for their needs. But also infants/toddler they will need help with keeping themselves clean. At this time they like to explore and play with food so they are known for make a huge mess with food. Be there to make sure the bib is the on the child or also letting them know that they are making a mess and help clean. Have them participate in cleaning themselves

    2. stretch after getting out the bed.
    3. make up my bed before going into the bathroom.
    4. walks to bathroom.
    5. use the toilet.
    6. wash hands after using the bathroom.
    7. pick up the soap bar.
    8. turn on water faucet.
    9. wash hands underneath water for 20 seconds.

How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?
In module 1 I put reminders on my phone, read the directions carefully, and follow the steps. They are working because I am doing my assignments before the due date. One of the changes I need to make is time management and to have enough time.
    Review the Power Point.
Pick 1 age group [infant- toddlers (0-36 months), preschool age children (3-5 years old), or young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade)] and pick 1 self- help skill (eating, grooming, hygiene, or daily chores). I picked infants and toddlers and eating.
Infants and toddlers can pick up a spoon if the parent is teaching them how to feed themselves. They might need help locating where their mouth is. They also cannot cut their own food. The parents or their guardian have to cut their food into small pieces and make sure that it is soft.

    Pick up a cup.
    Fill the cup with water.
    Rinse your mouth with water.
    Spit out the water.
    Getting Dressed in the Morning
    Take clothes off the hanger
    Put clothes on my bed
Try to match it with shoes
Take off my clothes that I slept in
I put on my under clothes
    I put on my pants
    I put on my shirt

    I look in the mirror
    I put on my jacket
    I put on my earrings
    I put on my jewelry
    I put perfume on

Hi Kenneth! I’m glad some of your techniques are working for you. I know it’s hard not leaving work for the day of because it’s one of those out of sight out of mind things. Even though it shouldn’t be like that but I do agree thats a rough one. I like how you incorporated family style for your eating self help skill. I feel thats very important because families should eat together, it brings unity to the family.

    2. Denise Newland Stewart

Kenneth, I like your number 3 response. Seeing how detailed you laid out the laundry chore makes me smile. I am always happy to see males knowing how to do laundry and doing it because it is very good when you can help yourself. My male siblings are master men at the house chores, likewise my nephews. Very good keep on washing. smile!

I identified in module #1 working good. But,I think the online class is very challenging for me because I can’t touch and talk to my classmates. It looks like the basic sensor system is not working in real life because we are studying distance education. I need to make time management to ensure success in ECE110.
    Review the Power Point.
Pick 1 age group [infant- toddlers (0-36 months), preschool age children (3-5 years old), or young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade)] and pick 1 self- help skill (eating, grooming, hygiene, or daily chores). What can children in the age group you selected do in the self-help skill you picked? For example, if you picked YOUNG SCHOOL AGE and DRESSING, describe what abilities young school age children have in regards to dressing themselves. What can the children do independently? What might they need help with?
I picked young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade) and Hygiene (washing hands). The children can do independently the skills to wash and dry their hands. They might need help when they should wash their hands, how to use soap and how to open the faucet.
Steps to complete self help skills
    1.Wet hands
    2.Use soap
    3.Scrub palm to palm
    4.Palm to bace
    5.Thumbs
    6.Between fingers
    7.Knuckles to plam
    8.Fingertips
    9.Rinse
    10.Dry
11.Use towel to turn off top and open door.

      Hey Yan,
I totally agree with your response to question 1 I would suggest speaking to us about that during one of our zooms and maybe asking other peers if they would like to start a group chat. But good jobs on your steps to help skills because it was very straight forward and easy for a young child to understand.

    2. Arelis Marie Elias

Hi Yan, I agree it is weird not being in a classroom setting and being able to socialize with peers even though many of us are engaged in other social platforms we actually know those people. It is helpful to socialize so that we can see if we are all on the same page and are able to help one another. This shows that sometimes we all need a little help.

1)How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?

    – I stay motivated and engaged as much as possible. I remind myself although it’s only a few weeks course it’s going to be a fast pace course and will require a lot of my time and focus. Thinking of my goal for the end of this semester is what motivates me to keep pushing. With work, end of school year reports due and college responsibilities all at the same time, it is very challenging to separate a specific time just for college work. I am working on my time management because I want to give my best in all my courses and most of all become more knowledgeable in the field of Early childhood.

    2) Ages 3-4 Preschool Group

    – The Self-Help Skill I chose is putting on Velcro shoes. Children ages 3-4 are able to self dress, may need assistance with zippers and buttons. Able to put on shoes, successful with velcro, snap or slip on shoes, avoid shoes laces; they can be discouraging and fustrating. They might need some assistance knowing which shoe goes on which foot. Some parents label shows with unique stickers to help child identify until it’s not necessary anymore or teachers sometimes might write the child’s name on one specific shoe to help the child recognize what foot that specific shoe go in.

    3) List the steps – be specific and descriptive as possible!

-Sit on the floor with your shoes in front of you.
-Take one shoe at a time
-Start by pulling and opening the velcro.
-Pull out the tongue of the shoe toward the front of your shoe.
-Hold the side of your shoe and pull out gently one hand on each side.
-Bring you knee close to your chest
-Now place the shoe infrnt of your foot
-Slide your foot in all the way to the front of the shoe.
-Stomp foot on the floor while seated to adjust your foot in the shoe.
-Pull the tongue of your shoe back to touch your foot.
-Pull the velcro across the opposite side and close your velcro.
-Repeat the same step with your the other shoe.
-Now do your happy feet dance!

1.How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an online class working ? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110 ?
    – The techniques I identified in module #1 were to put important dates in my phones and not leaving anything for last minute. This help me be successful because I haven’t behind on no work from ECE 110 and I’m aware of what’s due and when. The changes I think I need to make is improve on reaching out to my professor more and always remember to ask for help and questions when in zoom meetings or maybe just through emails also I will like to change the way I write papers and improve on them.
3.I picked young-age children and the self skill I picked to show them was hygiene(showering/bath).The abilities young age children should have once with showering or bathing is that they probably know how to turn on the water and know that they probably have to use soap and they will probably need help seeing if the water the right temperature or knowing all the right places to wash.
    4. The steps to bathing
    1.Get undress
    2. Put clothes in dirty clothes hamper
    3.turn on the water
4.check the temperature of the water make sure its just right not hot or cold
    5.get in the bathtub
6.rinse your body down with water
7.get soap and start with the bottom of you body and work your way up
8.rinse the soap and repeat steps 7 and rinse down once again
9.make sure to carefully wash your face and rinse down your body one more time
    10. step out the bathtub and dry your body and get change.

Hi Elianna! I am so glad that your techniques from module one have helped you and that you’re benefiting from them already. I chose the same technique as you and felt it was really important because now a days our phones are practically glued to our hands, and a friendly reminder would definitely give us that push to look at homework. On line classes is difficult because it’s like an out of sight out of mind thing.

I also enjoyed how you took the time out to talk about self hygiene and did broke it down

How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?

The techniques i’ve identified in Module #1 have been very beneficial for me. I have been keeping up with assignments thanks to the reminders that are sent from the professor, but also the reminders I set for myself 3 days before the assignment is due. Going forward, I need to continue being consistent with these reminders, there’s been a few times where my alert would go off and i’ll push the assignment to another day, but its rare.

Pick 1 age group [infant- toddlers (0-36 months), preschool age children (3-5 years old), or young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade)] and pick 1 self- help skill (eating, grooming, hygiene, or daily chores). For example, if you picked YOUNG SCHOOL AGE and DRESSING, describe what abilities young school age children have in regards to dressing themselves. What can the children do independently? What might they need help with?

I chose the Infant – Toddler age group and the self help skill being self feeding. By 9-12 months they start to develop a pincer grip, which is associated with fine motor skills. With the pincher grasp infants/toddlers start to pick up attainable objects, like their toys or foods. As a care giver/ parent, we can encourage them to only put food in their mouth. Placing a plate in front of them and putting small amounts of foods on it for them to grab and put in their mouth to eat.

To teach self-help skills we break down the skill into smaller, manageable parts. Think of a self-help skill you do every day. What are the steps you take to complete self-help-skill? List the steps – be specific and descriptive as possible!

    Tie your shoe laces

    1. Put your shoes on
    2. Grab one lace in your right hand and the other with your left hand
    3. Make an BIG ‘X’
    4. Put one lace under the other
    5. PULL TIGHT!
    6. Take One lace and make bunny ear and hold in your hand
    7. Take the other lace and make another bunny ear and hold in your hand
    7. cross the ears
    8. put one bunny ear under the other
    9. PULL TIGHT!

    1. Arelis Marie Elias

I love that you chose to tie shoes. It is very important to teach children to tie their shoes at a young age it helps them gain independence.

  17. Arelis Marie Elias

    1) For this course, I have been using a planner in order to see when my homework is due I also reflect on the reminders app notification that I receive on my phone. I have been keeping up with all the assigned task but I am also taking another course and teaching my students through zoom while being a mom so I am still running on a hectic schedule but I am getting it done.
    3) Young School Age
Daily Chore ( Cleaning Dishes after lunch)
    1) Dump the leftover food inside of trash bin
    2) Turn on water
    3)rinse leftover food
    4) Pick up a sponge
    5)Wet the sponge
    6)Squeeze soap on the sponge
7)Use the sponge to rub soap against utensils
    8) Rinse off the soap from the plate and eating utensils
    9)Grab paper towels
    10)Dry plate and eating utensils
    11) Place them back on the rack

1.How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?
-In this online class I be putting in my calendar the days that I have to submit assignments, so when it’s time to submit the work a reminder will pop up on my phone. The changes I need to make is time management, I need to fix my schedule not only school wise but with things at home.

-I pick a preschool age children and 1 self-help skill is eating.

What can the children do independently? What might they need help with?
Children at that age are able to eat by themselves, all they need help with cleaning the mess they make and teach them how to clean it themselves.

To teach self-help skills we break down the skill into smaller, manageable parts. Think of a self-help skill you do every day. What are the steps you take to complete self-help-skill? List the steps – be specific and descriptive as possible! (see example below)
Cleaning the mess after they eat
    1.Take the plate
    2.Throw out the leftovers
    3.Clean the table
4.Throw the plate in the sink
    5.Do the dishes
    6.clean the stove
    7.Put the dishes to dry
    8.Sweep the kitchen
    9.Mop the kitchen
10.Put the dishes where it belongs

    Module 5 Assignment #2: Self-Help Skills

    1. How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?

-Time-Management: I still need to try very hard to share my time with schoolwork, work, family and other duties. It is challenging this semester, but I am trying and doing my best to still manage my time.
-The other technique is self-disciplined. I am disciplined and know that I have to do my work, and is trying to get them done, though I am a bit behind. I still have determined to continue and be successful.

    2nd grade – daily chores

Brush her teeth, comb her hair and wash her face

    ECE 110
How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?

In ECE 110, I been using notebook planner to keep with the due dates for each module and for the observation papers, this helps see if been on top of my classwork, In addition to this one of the best things that has been helping me with concentration , especially when it comes to writing the observation papers, is listening to calm piano music (melodies). I would strongly recommend this to my fellow classmates who struggle with concentration. Sometimes there is moments where I feel overwhelmed by the amount of classwork, since I learned the materials at a low pace, I take time to review each module, the readings, the videos, and making sure that I learned the material carefully, jotting down information, highlighting important text(key words).Overall, I see myself that I learned things better through watching, listening, and writing, such as the PowerPoints, where Professor Jen goes over the material, she explains the material in a very simple way, she integrates real life examples, she goes over each detail in very specific way so that students can learned. The remind app has also been very beneficial because it keeps me up to date regarding with check-in meetings, the due dates for each module, and so on, that I receive on my phone

I choose Preschool age children (3-5 years old)

    Grooming

(getting ready for school, dressing up, styling the hair, self-care, wearing comfortable clothing)

What can the child do independently?

The child might be able to apply lotion on his/her face independently, as well she or he might be able to independently put a shirt. If it’s not possible the child can be taught through demonstrations on how to put this…. (flashcards, through steps, educational videos)

What might they need help with?

All Preschool children depend on adults for their needs at that age, the child might need help with putting on a pair of leggings/pants/jeans, the child may also need help with putting on a pair of socks, along with their sneakers/shoes.

1.How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?

The techniques I learned in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working is first time management, which I am still working on. This is, in my opinion, one of the most important skills for success. Also, keep an eye on assignments and try not to fall behind.

2.Pick 1 age group [infant- toddlers (0-36 months), preschool age children (3-5 years old), or young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade)] and pick 1 self- help skill (eating, grooming, hygiene, or daily chores). What might they need help with?

I choose preschool age children (3-5 years old) and pick up self-help skills washing hands. Children for this age often find it difficult to reach the faucet and need help with it. So, I would place a small chair at their feet, so that they could step on it and reach for it. The steps they need for washing hands are:
    Open faucet.
    Wet hands.
    Apply soup.
Apply soups to hands, fingers and between fingers, on the wrist and on the surface.
Rinse the soup and put back.
    Rinse hands for 20 seconds.
    Take a paper towel.
    And try hands.
Close the faucet with a paper towel.
Come carefully down from the small chair.
Put a paper towel in the trash can .

How are the techniques you identified in module #1 to be successful in an on-line class working? What changes do you need to make to ensure you are successful in ECE 110?
For me in the beginning of this class I was actually doing really great however I really do need to work still on time management and goals I set for myself with school work.

Pick 1 age group [infant- toddlers (0-36 months), preschool age children (3-5 years old), or young school age children (kindergarten to 2nd grade)] and pick 1 self- help skill (eating, grooming, hygiene, or daily chores). I choose infants! One self help skill that I help infants in my classroom do is self feeding. There are many ways I help my infants self feed. One way for the younger infants is learning to hold their own bottle. I use what I call hand over hand. I have the infant put their hands on the bottle so they can see where to old their bottles eventually they hold their own bottles and self feed! The youngest bottle holder in my class are about 4-5 months! For my older infants who are eating solid food and are old enough to eat more then just puree food I help them learn how to use a spoon. As I feed them I initially tell them what we are doing and what they are eating. I also use the hand over hand technique when Im teaching them how to use a soon bu i also let them hold another spoon so they get sort of a feel for the spoon and get comfortable holding one. Eventually I show them that they can pick up the food with the spoon and bring it to their mouth. This is done consistently every time they eat so they know that a utensil is used so they can et food into their mouths.
