I learned about motor skills that a child developments. I learned that physical development is the stages that a person body takes as it matures through life. I learned the difference between fine motor and gross motor skills. Which gross motor involves the larger muscles and fine motor involves smaller muscles. Those were ah-ha moments for me. I learned how important it is for a teacher to incorporate physical activities so children can work on their gross and fine motor skills. I learned how to closely conduct an observation and look for gross and fine motor skills.

In Module 3 I learned that is is important to know the different stages a child should be at, this being for gross motor skills, milestones as well as fine motor skills and milestones. Also, how important it is to have a rich classroom environment to help the students work an explore different skills and reach milestones. In addition it is very important as an educator to understand Physical development to assist the students thrive, I learned it is important to communicate with the children while they are doing activities. To ask questions and make comments, but also know and learn what each kid is working on to be able to scaffold.

Module 3 was very informative. I learned the importance of Physical activity/Development and the differences of gross and fine motor skills as well as their similarities and their importance. I also learned different activities that can be used at home or in the classroom that can help children as young as infants in developing these skills and helping them build their body confidence. I also learned that it is extremely important to to be consistent, responsive, attentive and nurturing with infants and toddler to provide them the feeling of safety and love when under your care in the classroom in order to simulate areas of development, including physical development, giving them the comfort to explore. It is also important to communicate with the children, encourage them and keep them active.

In this module I learned about children’s physical development. I learned about gross and fine motor skills and how exactly to help students grow and develop. This module showed me specific activities to promote the development of students motor skills. It can be as simple as taking them outside and letting them run around and climb the playground to support the development of their gross motor skills. Or I can even give them free time to draw and paint or do arts & craft to support the development of their fine motor skills. From this module it also became clear why it is so essential to support your students and help them develop their gross and fine motor skills.

In module 3, I learned that children act like children because in this generation most children act like adults and do not know how to behave like children.
The videos remind me when I was a substitute teacher last year at Bright Horizon and I was interacting with the kids and teaching them their numbers and shapes. I also remember me being a home attendant for one of my students and she had ADHD which is why I wanted to take a class to learn more about children’s.

Answer: In this module I learned about gross and fine motor skills and age frame on where the child should be at a certain age and also what they should be able to do at that certain age. I also learned the difference between fine motor and gross motor skills. Most importantly I learned how teachers or anyone who is working with children to really encourage physical activities so children can work on their gross and fine motor skills. The things that I did observe in this module is you must be super visual, and take notes on your children to see their improvements. I can use this information in the healthcare world and see if my patients are meeting the expectations for their age group and let their families know on what they would need to work on and also myself participate and help the child as well.

    1. What did you learn in this module? I learned how to improve my skills from the last modules and learn new things to apply to real-life situations when dealing with young children. From assignment #1 I learned about physical development, I learned how fine and gross motor skills are both similar but also very different and how to observe and help a child learn on how to develop its fine and gross motor skills and what it takes to do that and how teachers can support in that in classrooms. Assignment # 2 showed and helped me learned how to observe and see if a child demonstrates gross and fine motor skills and to make sure that the child has achieved those skills by the age they are. I also learned to apply everything I learn to paper I’m writing because it makes writing a paper for this class so much easier.

    2. How will the material from this module better prepare you to work with young children?
This module better prepares me to work with young children because now I have the knowledge of skills and stages and child should be at by their age and also I know what to teach, how to teach and the type of environment I should in to help those young children achieved their milestones.

In this module I learned how fine and gross motor skills are similar and how they differ.I learned that children can develop fine motor skills by doing activities that work out the small muscles in their hands and fingers such as drawing. I learned that children can develop gross motor skills by doing activities that involve moving the big muscles in their arms, legs and core such as playing outside or riding a bike. I also learned how to identify physical development by using the Gross motor skills & processes, Fine motor skills & processes, Gross motor milestones, Fine motor milestones charts. I can use what I learned in this module to prepare activities that will support gross and fine motor skills when I work with young children. I will also be able to identify physical development through observation.

This module helped me to observe children’s physical development and properly identifying fine motor and gross motor skills. It is very important to ensure that the child is properly developing their fine motor and gross motor skills by hitting their milestones. This module helps us, teachers, to be more inclusive and to help every student in the classroom by making observations and giving each student the proper assistance that they may need.

      Hey Arelis Marie Elias
This is Luis Martinez I agree with you that this module helps us, teachers, to be more inclusive and to help every student in the classroom by making observations and giving each student the proper assistance that they may need. Also another way to remember the characteristics of fine motor skills is from the popular song heads, shoulders, knees, and toes.

It is important for the person who considers working with children to arm his or her self with an appropriate weapon to obtain successful in this field. The modules in ECE110 helps us not only to collect pertinent knowledge. But teach us several strategies and how to apply it as well in order to offer a great care for the child. This module helped me to gain knowledge about the physical development. I learned the gross and fine motor skill which relate to the child’s mastery of skill and movement that helps him or her to having a good balance and control for their body. Also, I learned that this skills changes and progress throughout stage of development. based on this skill we could determine whether the child is progressing normally or not. I learned also different activities that have a great role in bosting those skill and as a teacher it will help us to provide a proper support for children.

I learned in this module the difference between fine motor and gross motor skills and how it is important for childhood. These fine and gross motor skills are important for childhood children to practice for their physical and mineral development. It is very important for children to learn how to coordinate and control their body movements. I learned a motor skill is an action that involves every child using his muscle. Gross motor skills are larger movements a child makes with his arms, legs or feet. So, crawling, running, and jumping are gross motor skills. Fine motors skills are smaller actions.
The material from this module better prepared me because I had learned how under children physical and mineral development is very relative with fine and gross motor skills. I need to watch, play, stand, teach and train for my students. I feel I have a huge responsibility, if I become a teacher.

In this module I learned about the physical development of a child. I learned that development is the ability to use and control your body. There are two kinds of advancements in development, gross motor skills and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills involve development of your large muscles such as arms or legs. Fine motor skills refer to the development of small muscles including your hand or fingers. I learned there are gross motor milestones and fine motor milestones, this is a stage in which you reach once your motor skills are able to do something new. I also learned why it’s important for teachers and caretakers to help children exercise these motor skills, and ways we can enforce motor skill practice. Lastly I learned how to identify motor skills by observing children of different ages and identifying their motor skill milestones and achievements.

In module 3 containing assignments 1 through 3.I gain an understanding on identifying/recognizing the differences and similarities between gross motor skills and fine motor skills that primarily centralizes from early childhood till late childhood development. Children gain greater control over the movement of their bodies as they age, mastering many gross and fine motor skills that is expected to be successfully completed by the time they reach a certain age. In addition to this I learned how to properly identify which characteristics of skills belong to, the best way for me that works is to remember is that fine motor skills focuses more on the small muscle movements that can be found on the upper and lower of the body this includes the movements of the wrists, hands, fingers, feet, toes, mouth, lips and tongue. By the way another way for me to remember the characteristics of fine motor skills is from the popular song heads, shoulders, knees, and toes. Whereas for gross motor skills it involves more on the large muscles’ movements of the trunk/torso consisting of the upper and lower body. The new insights that I acquire during the observations that I observe and analyze I learned it okay it’s fine if the child does not meet a specific benchmark by the time they reach an specific age that details what a would typically do or perform that associates with skills, processes, and milestones, all children developed differently from one another.

    Module 3 Assignment #3: Self-Reflection

I thought all this time that when children are born, they have bones, organs etc., that make up their body. I did not know that their physical development consisted of fine and gross motor skills. I would just think that I should watch them keenly and don’t allow them to do much exploring. Ah! Ah, now I know that allowing them to move around safely add to their development and those skills. Also, I would run and take up some of their playing things, believing they would injure them. Knowledge has now taught me that babies playing, touching, squeezing, biting, and not boxing them in to prevent them from rolling too much, is also good for their free movement and contributing to their development and building fine and gross motor skills.

I need to be more flexible with children, so I need to improve my flexibility skills to be able to adjust to them being themselves, and with safety, explore and develop. I might not work with younger children, however, when I am entrusted with babies, I will certainly know how to be a better caregiver and will give them their safe space to roll-over, crawl, creep, make step, walk, talk etc. I will be able to share information with mothers of young children and some caregivers with basic training. I will also encourage mothers and other persons that children though they may be at certain age do not mean that they will do things like what the books and persons say, because children develop at different pace as well as the kind of environment they were brought up in.

In this module I learned that children will always act the way do because of society and generation. The video remind me of being in a remedial classroom with so many other kids . I got learn and observe so much things about the other children I was around for 8 weeks

In this module I learned about physical development. Difference between fine motor skills and gross motor skills. Gross motor skills involve the use of large muscles of the legs, the arms, and the core (generally strength and endurance) such as jumping, shooting, climbing, jogging, jumping, and hitting. Fine motor skills use small muscles in the arms, the hands and the fingers for more precise movements such as handling and writing. I learned that it is important to communicate with the children while they are doing their activities, so children can work on their gross and fine motor skills.

In this module I learned about gross and fine motor development.
    Information/ knowledge
    Skills
I gained lots of knowledge on development and what specific things children should be doing at certain stages and ages.
I work with infants and this module has helped me plenty! knowing where children should be developmentally helps me help them grow and learn. It easy when you know more or less what they should be doing at certain ages to make lesson plans and be aware where they should be in their development.
