Since attachments are built by creating close relationships this gives the teachers the opportunity to create that with them. Teachers can communicate with the babies in a gentle, caring manner to assert them they can bee trusted. As the babies spend most of the day with them the role of the teachers in their lives becomes a big part of attachment with the consistency of being around them. As a baby cries and they are picked up the connection being made of the teacher caring for them make the attachment stronger with one another.

An educator can acknowledge what the child is doing, it can e as simple as the child reaching for something which is a milestone in infancy. Be as verbal as possible as the child listens and learns language and sounds. Making them feel important, like they matter and are their own person. Calling them baby their name in order to get a response from the. Talking them through what one may be doing to let them know what to expect. Their environment has to be stimulating, have age appropriate toys for mobile response from them. Overall making them feel like you are there for them and willing to support them through their development in different stages.

7.If you worked into an infant-toddler classroom, what would you look for to determine if the classroom offered quality care and programming?
If I were to walk into a infant-toddler classroom I would like to see age appropriate book, toys, a stimulating environment and have a inviting feel. I would also like to see the teachers engage as far as having conversations with them and including their peers. During reading time I’d like to see teachers making the stories come to life baby adding sounds to their stories. In addition I would like to see how they assist the children in achieving social, emotional, physical and motor skills and their response to them. As the children play/ build what the response and acknowledgement is at the present moment.
I’d also like to see how trust is established between the children and teacher, what measures they are taking to ensure the child feels comfortable and safe around them. Making sure the teacher don’t appear to be in distress, too tired, or in a bad mental state while around the children as this can diminish what they have built with them. More so seeing the teachers being comfortable in the environment they created and continue to create for the children and seeing them enjoy it along with them.

I have been a daycare preschool teacher for 5 years and worked with different age groups. The first thing I do when determining if the classroom offered quality care is to see the purpose of the program because a lot of companies are in it for the money and do not care about the children in their care. Devotion is very important to make you a great teacher or program , you have to have a passion for children before a passion for teaching and educating our youth. The tools that the children need have to be provided by the program such as developmentally appropriate books, toys, utensils, physical structures, sanitary stations, and the curriculum.

  11. Camila Polo

    1. Why is trust important during infancy?

Trust is important to the child’s development. Trust creates an environment so that the child feels motivated to learn. In order for a child to learn they must feel comfortable and trust the teacher or caretaker.

    2. What can teachers in infant-toddler classrooms do to build trust with babies and toddlers?

Being available for the child will help build trust. Tending to the needs of the babies will build trust as well, if the baby is crying due to hunger, and you feed it, the baby will start developing trust towards you.

    3. What is attachment?

Attachment is an emotional connection babies form with other people who are kind and caring to the baby.

    4. Why is attachment important when working with infants?

It is important for children to form an attachment to the caretaker so that they learn that they are in a safe environment because the people care for them. In order to form attachments with babies it is important to be responsive. By responding to babies cues you begin to form an attachment. It is also important to care for the child consistently this helps the baby know he can trust you; this will also help you understand the baby’s cues and be responsive. 7. If you worked into an infant-toddler classroom, what would you look for to determine if the classroom offered quality care and programming?

If I worked in an infant-toddler classroom these are some things I would enforce in order for my classroom to offer quality care. Responsive care would be the first one. I would make sure the caretaker is responsive and understands child’s cues. Also, that the caretaker initiate interaction if child is upset. Second would be base care. I would make sure each child has primary care. I would do this by ensuring the staff-to-child ratio is low and manageable and that the child is choosing who they feel comfortable to the best of my ability. Third would be individualize curriculum, this is important so that each child has the freedom to develop their own strengths as well as work on the skills that may need improvement. Fourth I would create a responsive environment. I would make sure that there is enough material so that they child can use independently. I would also make sure that the equipment is growing with the children, in other words that the material is being changed to meet the growing needs of the children. Fifth I would assure that the health and safety protocol and procedures are meet and followed constantly. Finally, I would create a continuity between the family members and caretakers. It is important to have an open communication with the parents regarding the children. It is important that the parent knows we are working together for the best development and growth of the child.

    1. Marilyn Jimenez

I agree with your answer to question number 6. Building trust with an infant can sometimes be very difficult especially with the older infants that are going through separation anxiety. No matter how long it takes we as teachers need to have lots of patience and build that trust with that child so we can be able to help them in their learning journey.

  12. kenneth soto

Children with secure attachments feel confident exploring their environment which allows them to learn.

5.How can teachers build attachments with babies?
Response caregiving, sharing enjoyment and consistency of care are how teachers can build attachments with babies. When a teacher reads and responds to babies cues, they begin to form an attachment with the baby.

6.What can teachers do to support baby’s physical, social-emotional, and intellectual development?
Teachers can support baby’s physical, social-emotional and intellectual development by forming a secure attachment and providing an environment where the baby feels safe and his needs are met.

7.If you worked into an infant-toddler classroom, what would you look for to determine if the classroom offered quality care and programming?
I would look to see if the other teachers have secure attachments with the children. I would look at the classroom to see if they have an environment that is going to allow the infants and toddlers to thrive. For example a dramatic play area, a sensory area, literacy area, art area and all other kinds of areas that support children’s growth and learning. I would also look to see if the classroom is safe. For toddlers and outdoor area for play.

    1. Luis Martinez

      Hey Kennet Soto
This is Luis Martinez certainly it is important that early childhood educators should integrate strategies to build/promote healthy attachments in the classroom setting, for example teachers should be consistent, responsive, understanding the needs and signals of the children in their care and encouraging positive behaviors and play.

  13. Luis Martinez

Why is trust important during infancy?
Initiating a foundation of trust with an infant (an early age) is the key of helping a child feel secure. A well formation of trust and attachment will certainly affect the way of how she/he will interact, communicate and form relationships with others throughout life. This process of bonding and establishing trust starts at the hand of the infant’s caregivers. There are several key factors at building trust and bond with an infant such as paying attention, listening to the baby’s feelings, treating the infant with kindness, providing caring touch, and spending quality time together.

What can teachers in infant-toddler classrooms do to build trust with babies and toddlers?
Indeed, the bond between a parent and child is an essential way of establishing trust and communication starts at home, but the bond continues between a teacher and child in a classroom is also one of the most for crucial beginnings of the child’s development. Early childhood education teachers should demonstrate consideration for every child in his/her classroom meaning being actively listeners and responding to the needs of the child. For instance, if a child is upset or frustrated, it is the teacher’s responsibility to help him/her with care as much as possible in order to determine what the cause is, and provide useful strategies, if needed to work through the situation that will lead to a solution.

In the second video they named 7 keys to quality care and I personally think I would look for all 7 because they seem equally important to me. Responsive care, the caregivers ability to quickly act and respond to a child when they seem like they need something. Relationship-based care, a place that focuses on individual relationships with each staff member and child. Individualized curriculum to make sure the needs of every child is being met. Responsive environment, they mentioned things like interest areas. Safeguard health and safety precautions being followed constantly. Continuity between family and caregiver, making sure all records are on file and up to date in accordance with the laws. And qualified staff and a quality program is definitely essential in the classroom.
