Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
No the pictures were not the same because I drew a baby in a person’s arms in cradle position , I would never put a baby in a bag and it is not something you see often.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
I would use the second sample because I have detailed information of this new student and I will know what to expect and how to redirect the child from not sharing the dinosaur.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
I would share the first one because of the simplicity and if I witnesses the situation I can verbally expand on the notes that was taken during the interaction with the two students.

1) The child is smiling squinting her eyes and had both hands balled into a fist together in front of her face.
2) The child is outdoors sitting on top of a soccer ball. He is frowning and has one arm across his chest and his head resting on his hand.
3) The child is laying on a bed alongside his feet rest a baseball glove with a ball inside. He has multiple dinosaurs laid out in front of him while he grasp two, one in each hand. He is making a grunting face as he is playing with the dinosaurs.

In the beginning of the video the baby places a shell inside of an empty container. As she closes the container upside down the shell slips out near her feet. She reopens the container to see the shell is not inside, she peeks around the room by turning her head and then reopens the container the shell is still not there she slams the container with her hand then reopens it to put her entire hand to feel the inside of the container . Her hand comes across the shell she gasps and she picks it up and places the shell back inside the container. She opens and closes the container and touches the shell inside the container repetitively until she places the shell behind her back she continues to open and close the container until the end of the video.

Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
My drawing is not the same as the picture that is on the website. My drawing is different because I drew a parent holding their child in there arms not in a shopping bag.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
I would pick observation B because she’s playful and follows directions when asked to by the teacher. If I was the teacher would teach her how to solve this problem with a different approach instead of yelling and snatching the toy out of someones hand.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
I believe Lily would be helpful to write and share with others because she didn’t get mad when her classmate gave her a different color than what she asked for.

In the first picture we can she is happy because of her facial expression and body language.
In the second picture the kid looks sad because he has a frown on his face. He is also sitting on a soccer ball in the middle of the field while resting his head on his hand.
In the third picture the child looks interested in his toys because he is playing with them while making facial expressions. He is also laying down on a bed and in the background you can see a baseball mitten.

In the beginning of the video the 11 month old baby was playing with a container and a shell. She tried to close the container with the shell inside but doing so she drops the shell out of the container without knowing. When she reopens the container she notices the shells not inside so she began to look around the room to see if she can spot it with her eyes. She found the shell next to her feet and when she went to pick it up she made a noise. She puts the shell in the container and closes it. She reopens the container and takes out the shell then continues to play with the container.

1.Take a moment and draw a picture of a person carrying a baby. It can be stick figures. After you have drawn your picture, go to this website to view a picture. Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
Answer: Yes, in my stick finger picture I put the child in the mother’s hand and when I clicked the link to go to the website I see the mother is holding the child in the purse/bag.
Sample Observations
2.Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
Answer: Observation B , the reason why I say B is because when coming to daycare or pre-k one of the main rules of developing and teaching children is learning how to share with your powers and being friendly. So I prefer to help a child that lacks or maybe doesn’t know how to share to become more friendly and like to share.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
Answer: Observation B , very detail from the beginning to the end of the observation.

Hi Janate,
I love your picture descriptions, because they gave me whole imagination about child moods.
Picture
Take a moment and draw a picture of a person carrying a baby. It can be stick figures. After you have drawn your picture, go to this website to view a picture.
Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
No, my drawing does not resemble the picture from the website. My pictures is of a mother carrying her child close to her chest. The picture we are shown is of a mother who is also carrying her baby, however i feel it is quiet literal. It is taboo to think of a parent carrying their infant in a bag, rather than what we are familiar with.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
I would pick observation B. Reason being, many times when we know a little bit more of the background story as to why a child is behaving the way they are we can try to better understand the situation and the child. It also gives us enough insight to the before, during and up to the point when the child gets upset over the toy. I believe there is enough information that one can work with and asses what action should be taken next, in order to gently guide both children in the right path.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
I am stuck between observation B and and D. Both have great attributes as far as details go. We can really see the picture here and can carry a better conversation based of the information given.

1. Here we see a young girl, cheeks are flushed, hands are made into a tight fist close to her chest as are her arms. The child is closing her eyes shut, and seen clenching her teeth.
2. The child is sitting on a soccer ball, with one hand on his chin and the other under his elbow. We can see in picture #2 the child is frowning while being outdoors, his eyes are locked into one direction.
3. In picture #3 we see a child playing with small toy dinosaur while laying on his stomach on the bed. The child has a few toy dinosaurs as well a baseball glove and call close to his feet. The child has two dinosaurs he is playing with, one in each hand. He his making expressions with his mouth and face as he plays with his toys.

As the video starts we see the infant placing a shell inside a tin container with a lid on it. The infant attempts to grab the container she is playing with and misses when the shells falls out. The infant open the container which she finds is empty, then looks over her shoulder, turning her head, at the same time she has both her index finger and thumb both extended to where she is now gazing. The infants attention comes back to the container, leading her hand in the container 3 times. As she closes the lid for the last time she picks up the shell with her left hand, and soon changes the shell to her right hand. She successfully gets the shell in the container, right after her attention is drawn again to over her right shoulder. Her body moves, legs included and moves right hand to the floor briefly as she makes sounds. The infants attention quickly is brought back to the container with the shell, which she processed to smack the top of the container with her right hand, she processed to taking turns with her hands going inside the container, as she is heard making small grunting sounds. She is successful at taking the shell out and placing it to her left side beside her. She processed to closing the container twice before leaning her body forward to look inside the container. As she shuts the container for the last time her body then moves to the right side once more. The infant does not interact with the person observing her during the course of the video.
Hi Maria
Good observation.
Picture,
Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
No the pictures were not the same because I drew a baby in a person’s arms in cradle position ,but I would never put a baby in a position where a baby would be put in a bag and thats something you won’t see often unless you a deadbeat and don’t want the kid, but I feel like kids don’t need to be treated like that.

Hi Shayna
Very good observation.
Take a moment and draw a picture of a person carrying a baby. It can be stick figures. After you have drawn your picture, go to this website to view a picture.
Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
My drawing is very different from the picture on the website. My picture was of a parent carrying the baby in their arms and the picture on the website was of a woman carrying a baby in a shopping bag which is not a common way to carry a baby.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
I rather have observation B because it tells me as a teacher more about the student so I can be prepared. Observation B shows me how the student reacts when facing a problem. This would’ve be a great moment in the class to teach her or all the students about sharing and how to treat each other. Observation D was also one I was considering but observation B is more realistic because there will be a lot of situations where students will want to use the same things at the same time and it’s good to see early what your potential students will do in that situation so you can plan to prevent it.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
Between Observation B and D I think they both did a great job at detailing and explaining exactly what they were observing which is important in an observation. However, observation B did a better job at capturing one of the most common problems in the classroom which is sharing.

Applying what you learned in the PowerPoint, the sample observations, and Jablon (2010) write a description of the 3 children in the photos below, being as detailed and objective as possible.
Child #1: It was time for a movement break. In the middle of the day Teacher Lee would put on a song for the students to dance to, it would be their movement break. “Let’s see. Who wants to choose today’s song?” Teacher Lee asked the children on the carpet. Sarah’s looked shocked, she stretched her arm up as high as it could go using her other hand to push down on the floor to make herself longer. Everyone was screaming above each other trying to get the opportunity to pick the song. Teacher Lee stands up and says, “Okay when everyone is quiet I’ll think of a number.” Sarah put her finger on her lips and crossed her legs. The room became completely silent. Teacher Lee walks down the rows “I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 10.” Children start to raise their hand and guess but they didn’t get it. Teacher Lee calls on Sarah. Sarah guesses, “5?” Teacher Lee claps. “That is correct, the number is 5. Come on and pick Sarah.” Sarah quickly get’s up, she was smiling so hard.
Child #2: While out at recess Ethan ran to the soccer ball bringing it back to his friends. David screamed, “Let’s play catch!” The rest of the boys smile and yell agreeing with David. “No! We’re playing kick ball.” Ethan hugs the ball tight. “I don’t want to play kick ball. David let’s play catch.” Elijah says trying to pry the ball from Ethan’s arms. “I found the ball first, stop Elijah!” Ethan screams squeezing the ball and bumping Elijah. “I found the ball so if you want to play catch you can’t play with the ball.” Ethan frowns. “Fine. We can find another ball.” David rolls his eyes and the boys walk away. Ethan spends the rest of recess by himself.
Child #3: Teacher Lee extended quiet time into play time because of the amount of talking the students were doing. All the students were upset that they had to read longer, some were just staring at the same page for minutes. Adrian went to the library to get his third book. When he returned to the table his classmates were whispering to each other behind the books. Adrian shushed them and opened his book. Teacher Lee walks over, “Thank you Adrian. I don’t understand why some students are still talking during quiet time.” Adrian smirks going back to his book. Teacher Lee taps his shoulder, “You can go on the carpet to play quietly.” Adrian returned the book to the library and ran to the carpet pulling out the dinosaurs. Quietly he played with them while one by one other students were instructed to the carpet.
Video
Watch the video below (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cnco3eS_Hc&t=10s). Write a chronological, sequential narrative description of what you see the child doing.
In the beginning of the video the child is dropping the shell into the tin can. She then tries to pick up the tin can and when she does the shell falls out of the can seemingly without her knowing. She then pauses for a second looking inside the can when she sees it’s empty. She looks around the room gazing at the floor as if she is looking for something. When she looks back to the empty can she scrunches up her face a little, closing the can and hitting the lid. She opens up the can again this time sticking her hand inside. When she closes the can this time she finds the shell and makes a sound, putting the shell back in the can. Once she places the shell back in the can she put the can down and seemed like she was going to move on but she opened the can again. She spends a few seconds trying to get the shell out of the can and when she finally does she places the shell behind her. She continues to open and close the empty can a few more times before the video ends. The seemed to be her focus for a quick couple of seconds but overall she was really interested in the can. She made a noise twice in the entire video, once a slight noise when she cannot find the shell and again a louder noise when she found it.
I enjoyed reading your description of the photos you created. it provided a great visualization for me and I was able to envision your detail descriptions.

In the beginning of the video, the baby girl is sitting on the floor and holding the white container. A white shell was inside of this container. For a baby, a white shell should be her treasure. The white shell came out from the container. She was looking around with bad emotion. After she finds her right foot, her face and sound is changed. We can see she is paying close attention to the white shell. After that, she carefully studied the container and put the white shell inside the container. She checks the container so many times for her white shell to be safe.

My picture was nothing like the picture from the website. My picture was a stick figure with a baby stick figure in there arms
-Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
I think observation B is the best. I think it is better because it is very detailed and shows all the childs actions and also reactions to the activity she is participating in.
-Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
I think describing a child’s actions and reactions and the environment they are in can give you details on where the child is developmentally and where you can help the child succeed and progress.

Picture #3 = Young boy is laying on the floor on his tummy. He has several dinosaurs in front of him towards his left. He has two dinosaurs on in each hand facing each other.
-11 month old video observation
The child is on a carpeted floor. The child has a tin can in her hand and she is opening and closing it with her right hand. After opening it she puts her right hand in it. She takes her hand out and with her left hand she picks up the sea shell and passes it to her right hand. She then places the seashell inside the can with her right hand and closes and opens the can. She then takes the shell out of the tin can and places it to the left side of her and then continues to open and close the tin can.
Hello Marilyn Jimenez
This is Luis Martinez, Good job at at including descriptive language for your observations, it shows that you fallow the professor’s powerpoint on child observation.
1. its different because my drawing was a person carring the baby in their arms . the picture from the website is very different the baby looks to be put in a bag.
observations i would use the the second one because its more detailed and how to redirect child from not sharing the dinosaur. ( which is something i see often working with kids)
photos
the child is is squinting an pressing hands together
the boy looks sad , upset or maybe even mad like if he didnt get what he wanted
the boy is playing with his dinosaurs he doent mind that hes playing by himself.
video
in the beginning the baby puts a shell inside of a empty container, once she places it upside down it slides out . she looks to see if its inside ,she looks around the room to see if she finds it. she then slams it with her hand. she continues to open the container till the end of the video.

I would pick Observation B, because when you in a new environment settings like a day care or school you have to follow guidelines. Going to day care teaches you how to interact with others and how to share and be kind.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
I would say Lily would be helpful to write and share with others because she didn’t get upset when her classmate gave her a different color than what she asked for.

Applying what you learned in the PowerPoint, the sample observations, and Jablon (2010) write a description of the 3 children in the photos below, being as detailed and objective as possible.
Picture #1
A little girl brushing with her eyes closed, her cheeks are rosy, her hands made into a tight fist. She’s biting on her teeth.
Picture #2
A child is sitting on soccer ball outside, one hand on the leg and the other hand on the cheek. While pasting in one direction.
Picture#3
A boy is playing with small dinosaur while laying on his stomach on the bed. On the bed is baseball glove with ball near his feet. The child is making facial expressions while playing with his toys.
Video
In the video I saw an infant sitting on floor playing with a container and a shell. She place the shell inside then takes it out and put it to side, left it there for a while then put it back inside the container. She open and closed the container.
Hey Keneshia
this is Luis Martinez, great job at including very detailed information on your observations , it shows that you fallowed the information posted on the Professor’s powerpoint on Child Observation as well the sample observation paper.

Take a moment and draw a picture of a person carrying a baby. It can be stick figures, you will keep the picture — you do not have to share it with me. After you have drawn your picture, go to this website to view a picture.
Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
-My drawing is very different from the photo because when I draw or picture a baby crying is because something bad has happen to the baby or the baby is crying out for food and that’s how I drew my baby crying because it was alone and hungry and also in my eyes there faces always turn red and tears come out the baby in the photo looks like she can whining but not really crying and I really didn’t expect for the baby to be in bag or look as calm as the baby in the photo is.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
-observations B and D because they described the both students very well .I would know that Soriyah does not like to share but likeS dinosaurs And likes to play and I would know that Lilly is very creative and nice and can along with her peers because she wasn’t mean to Annabelle.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
-Observation A only because it’s straight forward and let’s others know what type of student they got in there class because you don’t wanna correct the good you fix the bad so knowing that Soriyah does play with others and does like to share can have you thinking ahead and get others opinions on what you can to help the student be more willing to play and share with others.

How does the child move — include all types of movements
What does the child look at, gaze at?
What seems to attract the child’s interest? How can you tell?
What toys, materials, &/or furniture does the child use? How?
How does the child communicate, including vocalizations, sounds, cries, babbling, words, facial expressions and gestures?
How the child interacts with people?
Anything else you notice.
-An 11 month old baby is being observed she has books spread behind her by a rug and also has container and a shell. During the observation the child is very interested in the container she figures out it opens and closes and eventually puts the shell inside the container but then takes it and throws the shell not so far from her.The child sits puts in one place throughout the whole video she tries to move at one point but the container was too interesting for her. The child is very interested in the shell and the container she constantly opens and closes the container and constantly puts the shell in and out the container. The child does interact with no one just the objects she has on her hands and only makes noise at one point in the video once she saw she can open and close the container. In the end she puts the shell back in the container and close up the container.

Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
My drawing is completely different from the photo. I drew a woman caring her a baby in both arms in a nurturing way. I didn’t draw anything else in the background and freed the hands of the woman to just have the baby and not shopping bags like that photo displayed. The only similarity between the two is that they are both women.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
I would rather observation B. The observer in observation B went in dept about his surroundings, the childs emotions towards the dinosaur and the teacher telling her to roll up her sleeves, and how the little boy who grabbed the dinosaur affected her behavior. Observations like Observation B is very prominent because it also us to see everything at different perspectives and help us understand what led to the final conclusion. This will allow me thoroughly assess the child and better attend to her.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
Both observation B and D are very detailed, observation B being the most, and this will allow me to properly engage and better explain to others how the childs actions were affected over time.

In the beginning of the video, the 11 month old is sitting down on the floor, with her legs out. Her attention is on a tin can that’s located on the left side to her. She grabs the can with her left hand and starts to play with it and the shell drops out, landing on her left foot. She is staring at the tin can for a few seconds before turning away, looking behind her as if distracted or looking for something. She brings her attention back to the tin can, holding it with both hands and closes the lid while making a cooing sound. She starts to fiddle with the tin and opens the lid and places her right hand inside it while her left hand rest on the lid. She continues to observe it and opening and closing before grabbing the shell and making another cooing sound. With the tin closed, and the shell in the 11 months old left hand, she uses her left hand to attempt to open before switching to her right hand and opening the tin and placing the shell inside. She then proceeds to tap the can and placing her right hand inside while holding the can steady with the other to take the shell out. She realizes she cannot and switches hands until successful. She places the shell to the right of her while dropping the can and bringing her full attention back to the can and picking it up with both hands. She places her right arm inside the can as much as possible and turns her body to the left of her to grab the shell and releases the hold she had on the can. Her right arm is no longer inside the can and the shell remains in the same spot. Her attention is no longer on the shell and focuses on the can in the middle of her legs, with bot legs spread out shoulder length. She continues to open and close the lid to the can before gaining interest inside the can with the right hand on the lid and closes the lid on her finger.

Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
Definitely my drawing is not the same as the photo being showed because in the photograph being showed the mother shows ungentleness and careless towards her baby, she does not demonstrate responsibility as a mother. Carrying a baby on plastic bag is quite dangerous because the baby may suffocate or may she/he may fall.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
If I was a teacher in classroom, and a new child is coming into the class I would want to know about his/her age, name, weakness/strengths, skills, abilities, records from previous education regarding with disabilities or special needs, and observe the way of how the child will interact with his fellow classmates.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
The way he/she interacts with his fellow classmates, verbally and physical as well the objects she or he is holding. Another description would be the way she/he behaves and acts(feelings) in the classroom or around his classmates. Recording movements, feelings, assess the child’s progress, learning, and abilities.

Picture # 1
The young girl is smiling, squinting her eyes, she has both hands placed together forming a fist in front of her chin. It shows that she may be feeling excited or perhaps disgust about something that she does not like.
Picture #2
2) The young boy is outdoors at home(backyard)/park sitting on top of a soccer ball. His facial expression shows that he is frowning or perhaps feeling gloomy, thinking about something or is concerned about what he did. I notice that he has one arm across his chest and his head resting down on his hand.
Picture#3
3) The young boy is laying on a bed, he has placed one of his feet to rest on a pillow. There is baseball glove with a ball inside placed next to the boy. He has multiple dinosaurs laid out in front of him while he is grabbing two, one in each hand left and right. His facial expression shows, he is making a grunting face as he is playing with his dinosaurs, trying to mimic dinosaur voices.
Include the following:
What does the child do during the observation?
How does the child move — include all types of movements
What does the child look at, gaze at?
What seems to attract the child’s interest? How can you tell?
What toys, materials, &/or furniture does the child use? How?
How does the child communicate, including vocalizations, sounds, cries, babbling, words, facial expressions and gestures?
How the child interacts with people?
Anything else you notice.
In the beginning of the video, I notice the toddler places a shell inside of an empty plastic container, the child opens and closes the lid repeatedly. As she closes the container upside down the shell comes out sliding towards her feet. She reopens the lid container to see if the shell is still on there, she then looks around the room by slightly turning her head towards the left. She explores the container and the shell by feeling the texture of each object. Then she reopens the container, she notices the shell is still there, she hits the container with her hand, then he reopens it to put her entire left hand to feel the inside of the container. She places the shell in the back near the rug mat, she closes the container with both of her hands, she notices that the shell is not there anymore, until the end of the video the child decides to close it.

Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
The picture that I draw was different from the one that I found in the website because I did expect to see a child in the bag. For me I draw a child carried in my arms because a child needs to be protected and needs have a better care.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
I would have the observation B or D because in both situations there is details exposed which allowed to have a better understanding for the child’s behavior and known the source of their reactions which help us to provide strategies that could help a child
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others. the could helps us to have intuitions about the child’s behavior.
as I said observations D and B have details that could helps us to have intuitions about the child’s behavior and thus find out how to treat that child.

Yasmina, I understand your reaction to the lady carrying the baby in a bag. I said someone could snatched the baby from her. Normally, we don’t carry a child like that. On the other hand, could it look like a real baby and it is not? Could it also be a case of her wanting public attention, posing for the cameras or advertising something?

1) Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
-My drawing was different from the photo shown on the website. I drew a mom embracing her baby. It was different because every person thinks and sees things from difference perspectives. Our drawings may have been based on our past experiences or things we have seen.
Sample Observations
Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
-I would prefer having observation D about Lily because it has quotes and descriptions that allows me to get to know lily’s personality and how she thinks.
Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
-I would use the quote where she makes a comparison and connection between the flowers in the picture and one she has seen in real life in her garden.
-I would use the quote where she looked back and forth at her paper and picture. She is demonstrating focus on details and tries to replicate what she sees in the picture.
-I would also use the part where she makes series of long strokes and short dabs. It shows she is building strength and mobility in her hands.

-The infant is about to close a metal container with a shell inside. Before she’s closes it completely the shell slips out of the container.
The infant reopens the container and looks inside. She puts her hand inside. She looks on to the side pointing with her and say “hmm”
While she closes the container again she feels the shell with the tip ohf her fingers that the shell was next to her foot. She says “hmmm” picks it up and puts it inside the container. She closes the container with the shell inside. Opens the container again and take out the shell. She takes the shell out and swings her hand to put it behind her. She keep looks at the container while she repeatedly opens and closes it.
Teresa — Thanks for your comments! You have clear, detailed objective descriptions of the children and video! I wonder, what hand did the child use in the video? Which direction did she turn her head?
NOTE: Private response is visible only to instructors and to the post’s author.
1. Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
The drawing I drew is different. I drew a mother holding a baby in her arms, in this picture the baby is in a bag. I guess when I picture someone holding a baby I picture them being held carefully and in the arms of a person.
2. Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
The observations that I would want to have are Observations B and D. Both observations provide me with a lot information and that might help me better asses the child coming into my classroom.
3. Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
I think information that might be important to write and share with others include; how the child interacts with others, maybe some speech or conversation observations and temperament of child for example does the child share? did the child cry when meeting other? I think these might be important point to take notes in order to properly help the child adjust to a new classroom setting.
4. Picture observations
In picture number 1 I see a child, the child’s shoulders are hunched up, the child is smiling, the child’s hands are closed and together in front of the child.
In picture number 2 I see a child frowning, the child has a hand on the child’s cheek, the child is sitting on top of a soccer ball. The child is also looking away
In picture number 3 I see a child playing with two dinosaurs, the child is looking at the two dinosaur toys and the child’s mouth is open
5. Video Observation
This video begins with a baby and a tin with a shell inside. The baby picks up the tin and the shell falls out; the baby doesn’t notice that the shell fell out. The baby continues to open the tin and look inside. Then the baby looks behind and points. The baby stops pointing but continues to look behind. The baby looks back at tin, closes tin and hits the top of the tin. Baby opens tin and puts hand inside, and then takes hand out. Baby discovers shell and picks it up. Baby now opens tin and puts shell inside and closes the tin. Baby grunts loudly. Baby opens tin and removes shell. Baby sets shell behind her. Baby continues to open and close tin.
Camika, I support your video observation for number 5 and after learning this content about observation, I am taken a back, saying normally we would use words to express the video like “the child is fascinated by the object”. Now we know that we cannot say that because we have nothing to support that he or she is fascinated and that would be an opinion. When my students ask me why am I staring/looking at them, I will now tell them that a good teacher observes his/her students.

1. Take a moment and draw a picture of a person carrying a baby. It can be stick figures, you will keep the picture — you do not have to share it with me. After you have drawn your picture, go to this website to view a picture.
2. Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
-My drawing which is a stick lady and she is not carrying the child in a bag, I am carrying the child in a stroller and my hand is held before me. I am wondering if it’s a real baby, and if the baby is real, someone might be able to snatch the baby out of her hand, considering she has the bag with the baby and other bags in her hand.
2. Sample Observations
1. Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
-I would take observation One (1) because I would be informed that Soriyah does not like to share dinosaurs. However, it could be that she likes dinosaurs and does not like to share and not that generally does not share. I would also observe her behavior to see if she does not like sharing and work with her to change that habit.
2. Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
-Description one (1) I think it might be helpful to explain an observed behavior trait from the child (positive or negative). That will help another person to better understand the child and know how to accommodate him/her. For example, leaving a baby with me and telling me that whenever the baby cries, he/she needs changing or is hungry. That is useful information for me because I will know what to do when the baby cries.

(a) Picture 1 – The girl’s eyes are closed. Her teeth are showing, her hands are resting on her chest, with her fingers folded and wearing pink clothing.
(b) Picture 2 – The child is sitting on a ball with right hand at her right jaw, fingers slightly bend, hair curly, striped top and khaki pants.
(c) Picture 3 – shows a child holding in both hands two toys. Other toys are beside the child’s left hand.
Watch the video below (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cnco3eS_Hc&t=10s). Write a chronological, sequential narrative description of what you see the child doing.
2. What does the child do during the observation?
The child is playing with an object. The child puts something in the container then takes it out. The child is seated, and sometimes looks sideways. The child is gazing at an object. The child’s interest seems to be attracted to the object he/she is opening and closing in his/her hands as well as putting in and dropping out another object. The child is using a square like object that he/she is opening and closing, while inserting and taking out the smaller object from the square like object. The child communicates with sounds at different intervals; however, his/her face is looking downwards most of the time so a facial expression cannot be determined. I cannot say how the child interacts with other people.
Picture
No, my picture was of a woman carrying the infant in a cradle position while getting ready to place her into a crib/bassinet. Seeing this image is a bit abnormal as you don’t often see children being carried this way.
Sample Observations
I think i’d rather Soriyah’s observation. I would have a better input on helping her learn how to share. When Andrea’s tries to play with the red dinosaur I will be able to show Soriyah that sharing is a must in order for everything to work smoothly.

Applying what you learned in the PowerPoint, the sample observations, and Jablon (2010) write a description of the 3 children in the photos below, being as detailed and objective as possible.
Picture #1: The First image you see a very excited toddler girl. you can tell she is female because she is wearing Pink and has her hair up in a pigtail. Also, her facial expression exposes her teeth and she is squinting which usually is an emotion of joy.
Picture #2: Picture 2, shows a boy with curly hair and it appears he is upset. He has a frown upon his face, and it seems he may have had lost in a game of soccer as he is sitting on a soccer ball.
Picture #3: I see a young boy whoo appears to be playing with his dinosaur action figures on his bed. he is laying flat on his belling and showing either grunting or roaring facial expressions. his eyebrow show to be in fury while his nose is a bit scrunched. you can also see there is a baseball mitten in the background.
In the video you see an 11 month old baby. it appears to be a girl, she has an orange hair clip on her head and pink socks. the baby was playing with a tin container and a shell. She tried to close the container with the shell inside but doing so she drops the shell out of the container without realizing. When she reopens the container she notices that the shell is not inside so she begins to look around the room to see if she can find it. She does, it was besides her feet, she makes a grunting noise to confirm she has located the shell. She puts the shell in the container and closes it. She reopens the container and takes out the shell then continues to play with the container.

Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
1. My imaginary drawing is not the same as in the photo. I drew a mother holding an infant in her arms. The mother puts the baby in a supine, horizontal position and looks at him, presumably either singing and sleeping, or talking to him. The picture in the photo is completely different. The young woman has a baby in her purse, she also has other bags, where we can see the toy. And the child is not scared, on the contrary, he is very happy, which gives me hope that this shot may just be a joke from a young, and funny woman.

I think a detailed description of the story will be very helpful, as described in B and D sample observation. It is also possible to summarize what happened. But I think the text should be neither too short nor too long.

Photo #1.
The photo shows a delighted child who is very happy about something. The fists of both hands are on the top of each other, the shoulders are raised, the eyes are closed, the nose is admiring the mimicry, the wrinkles are tied together. In this position she expresses excitement of joy.
Photo #2.
We see a boy of around 8 years old, who is sitting on a soccer ball in a playground, looking thoughtful and concerned, as it is shown in his arm position with the left wrist is bent into the right hand’s cross, and the folded fingers of the right hand are placed on the right cheek. The face shows through his eyes wide open that he is more likely to be thoughtful that tired.
Photo #3
The picture shows an amused boy of about 6 years age, playing with two dinosaurs, each in one hand. The kid looks determined and concentrated in his game, as we see in his firm focus.
Video description:
In the shot we see an 11-month-old baby girl sitting on a white carpet. In the background are children books. The little one is quiet on her own for herself. She has a rectangular elongated box with her a hinged cover. She also has a shell toy that she puts in a box. That’s how the shot begins. The box stands in front, at the level of the toes of the left foot. She slightly tilted to take it off, the shell fell halfway while taking it, and she didn’t notice. She closes the box herself but could not cover it because of the shell that fell halfway out. Then the shell fell on her feet. She opened the cover and looked inside, observing for 4-5 seconds, unable to find it. She looked to the right and behind her as if she is looking where the shell might have gone. With the right hand, she makes a movement, with the index finger pointing to the right side for a second. She went back to the box and closed its cover. The first time she made a sound and grabbed the top of the box, she raised the cover again, looked up, put her right hand in, while holding the cover with the other hand. Is not in! She clasped her hand again, and with her left hand closed the box, at which point her right hand touches the cover slightly. She noticed the shell and let out a voice again, as if to say, “here’s where it was”, or “hey, I found it!” she tried to open the box and when she did, she put the shell in and closed the cover. She looked to the left; we hear her breath. She opened the box again and with her left hand tapped again on the cover. She put her left hand as if she couldn’t move and now, she put her right hand. She couldn’t take the shell out again, she changed her hand again, we can hear her breath. She is doing hand turns, and eventually with the right hand, she removed the sink and inertia was placed on the right side, slightly back. She investigated the box, folded her left hand, and returned to the shell, insisting with her right hand, but she didn’t take it. She went back to the box, covered it noisily, opened it again and closed. She opened the box again, looked, observed, and closed it. The video ends here.

11 month old observation- female child is sitting in an upright position, she has two items she is playing with, one is a small tin can , and sea shell. She is using her hands to open and close the tin can and the seashell dropped out of the tin can. During her continuous play with items she displays curiosity and extreme focus on the tin can, she even displays some verbal sounds during her play with the items. Due to some noise across from her she pause for a moment and turn her head to observe where the sound was coming from but she returned her focus on that tin can. She eventually removed the shell from the tin can and it put it aside. She continued to re-direct her attention to opening and closing of the tin can which seem to hold her attention throughout the video. She seemed quite amused by this tin can.
