Summary

The message or themes Beyonce wants to express through the song and video are that she highlights themes of endurance and power while celebrating black culture and identity through the song and its music video. Beyoncé embraces her femininity with pride and calls on women to value their strength and uniqueness, particularly black women. These ideas or messages are comparable to how I felt when I first saw the song and video—that is, she showed that she is a strong, independent woman who can achieve her goals. She proved to the entire world her strength and refused to heed the media. How did Matsoukas help Beyonce convey those messages and themes? Beyoncé had a lot of ideas for the video, but she wasn't sure how to put them together, so Matsoukas helped her communicate those themes or emotions. This is where Matsoukas traveled to assist Beyoncé in filming the music video in Louisiana, the birthplace of Beyoncé's grandmother, in order to improve black culture and have a significant global effect. Beyonce is thrilled with how Matsoukas captured the video, which was exactly how she planned it. She used dramatic tactics and passionate language in the song when she declared, "Okay ladies, let's get in formation." When you start all of this discussion, you know you're that bitch. This may be a dysphemism because she is being honest and doesn't try to hide the fact that she is a powerful woman and that others want to talk badly about her. "I dream it, I work hard, I grind 'til I own it, and I twirl on their haters" is another example. Beyoncé uses poignant words to convey her message that, despite her critics, she can succeed if she puts her mind to it and that they will watch as she gains popularity. I think the song and video became controversial because the music video showcases strong imagery that challenges society's conventions and preconceptions, while the song's lyrics tackle topics like racism, police brutality, and empowerment. All things considered, Beyonce's "Formation" provoked controversy because it boldly faced unpleasant realities and called attention to marginalized voices in a way that went against the grain of the established norm.
