Billy Hoyos

Summary

Critical thinking is an art which has tremendous importance nowadays for me. Who is not interested in developing their ideas to make better decisions? I bet more than one here wants it! In fact, training our brain to think logically and be able to self-reflect according to our criteria is the best way deal with daily decisions, though! In the first short video, the speaker state Dr. Richard Paul explanation about what is critical thinking: "the art of analyzing and evaluating thinking with a view to improving it." The speaker firmly believes that the concept is essential to understand critical thinking as such. Moreover, he emphasizes that is fundamental develop a powerful critical thinking since it will help you not only to make better decisions, identify fallacies and get valuable information, but it will also help you to understand how people think and act based on their reasoning. Beyond being agreeing, I plan to put my critical thinking into practice starting this semester. I know that by doing so I will be able to gain a better understanding and formulate outstanding ideas and plans that will ease my path towards my college career.

In the second video, Dr. Jesse Richardson highlights that people should worry about how to think, not what to think. He used our society as an example, specifically our children who start their path towards education, instead of telling them what to think (what’s right and wrong), let’s teach them how to engage them with their own minds and consciences by questioning themselves critically. By doing that, we do not give our children a limiter; in other words, we do not put barriers to what they should think since we allow them to explore a world of possibilities based on their untrained thinking. This key idea expressed by Dr. Richardson should not be overlooked, since it will genuinely allow a full development of critical thinking at an early age. The outcomes? Better thinkers will appear, a higher rate of success professionally, and people who are much more aware of themselves and those around them will come to light. In short, valuable human beings will develop if we act quickly and responsibly.
