One of the moral dilemma I thought was very powerful in “Moonlight” was when the main character experienced his mother asking for money for drugs, and the mother wouldn’t listen to all because she isn’t herself there. The main character was scared and didn’t know what to do. There can be different outcomes of the dilemma depending on my understanding of the situation, morality and emotion as well. You must also understand that the main character was young, and his understanding of the situation can be different. The few possible outcomes would be not giving the money to the mother and leaving or giving the money to the mother willingly for her drugs or sitting with her and hugging her and trying to understand the problem and solve it. The outcome can be own following conscience; don’t know what to do, do anything to improve the situation.
If I was in this situation, being a daughter who loves her mother, I would first hug her and tell her that everything will be ok. Instead of giving her the money for drugs, I would use that money to take her to the doctor. At the same time, talking about this kind of situation from the outside is one thing and being in the situation is another thing because, first of all, anyone would be lost no matter what but would want better results. For a mother, there are no better results than hugging her, giving hope, and facing the situation for a solution to the problem. The first step would be to make her calm and myself as well. In this situation, it is not about what is right for me but for my mother, and in that case, I would have to be very careful.
The principle that I would follow is I would do whatever makes me happy, and there is nothing else that would make me happy more than my mother’s well-being. I would also follow my conscience, and I know that will also be the well-being of my mother. At the end of the day, it is all about how I feel toward the situation, and who is facing it makes a big difference.
