I chose to use the movie “Parasite” to talk about in post 8. The moral dilemma of the movie is “gain at someone’s expense”. Since the movie is called parasite, it shows how people can act like parasites because parasites live on organisms and benefit from them. Similarly, the Kim family lied about their education, status, and identity just to make more money. They manipulated the Park family for personal gain.
The 7 moral positions:
- (Follow my conscience) – It can be seen that the Kim family don’t have any moral values and behavioral elements was passed on from the parents to the children. They lied to and manipulated the Park family. Their conscience told them that these actions are morally acceptable behaviors.
- (Don’t know what I would do) – The Kim family didn’t know what to do when they trapped the maid and her husband in the basement. They probably thought about killing them, but believed it was a step too far. We didn’t get to see what they were going to do with them because the maid’s husband escaped and created a killing spree.
- (I would do whatever to improve my own situation) – That is the main moral dilemma of the movie. The Kim family did everything to maximize the amount of money they could make by helping each other get jobs at the Park house. It became a circle of greed and lies that ultimately led to their downfall.
- (I would do what God or the scriptures say is right) – The movie didn’t show any religious elements that I can think of. So, any moral decision made in the movie wasn’t based on religion or had any religious impact.
- (I would do whatever makes me happy) – That was seen when the Park family left the house for a camping day. The Kim family took advantage of that and trashed the house. They drank, had fun, and acted like the house was theirs.
- (I would follow the advice of an authority figure) – The authority figure in the movie was Ki-woo because we wrote the scripts of what to say and when to say it. He made a plan to convince the Park family to hire the rest of his family members. However, as the plan deteriorates towards the end, Ki-woo turns to his dad for advice and help. Therefore, the authority figures were the son and the dad.
- (I would do what is best for everyone involved) – This was seen when Ki-woo helped hire his family members to work for the Park family.
The decision I would make is to accept the job that Ki-woo’s friend offered because no one involved would have been affected negatively. I would work as a tutor for the girl in the Park family and help my family financially. I wouldn’t involve the rest of my family members unless the Park family need a worker for a certain job. I wouldn’t lie and tell them that my family member needs a job and it would mean a lot if they could hire them. I would choose these actions by following my conscience that helps me determine what’s right and wrong based on the moral values that I was raised

Hi Tarik;
I guess the name of the movie speaks for itself, parasites as we know it is all about manipulation and deceiving others to live off of them, so we’re not surprised that this family would do whatever it takes in-other to benefit their personal gain.
