Logical Fallacies
by: Rashida Washington
The Loaded Question Fallacy, is a big ole trap! It’s a way to form a question in a way that incriminates the person being asked. It puts a person in a lose-lose situation. Almost like a way of tricking a person into an admission of guilt. The goal of the questioner is to deliberately make the answerer appear guilty. For example, think of the ole “does this dress make me look fat” scenario. It’s a winless response, because if a woman is asking that question, more likely she’s aware that she gained weight, and is very much aware that the weight gain is visually obvious. If the guy responds no, he’s lying and guilty for not being honest. If he responds yes, his honesty could come off offensive and hurt her feelings.
