Neighborhood Report

The population in my neighborhood Harlem, where I grew up and have spent 20 years living here, also viewed as Morningside Heights/ Hamilton, has 118,426 people living in the area according to NYU Furman Center data. One major fact is how much diversity can be noticed in having people from different backgrounds percentages being 39.8% Hispanic, 25.5% White, 18.2 % Black, and 10.2 % Asian.

Socioeconomic

According to the NYU Furman Center data report the gross rent increased from $1,120 in 2006 to $1,540 in 2021. This major issue within the neighborhood basically buying out those that are not able to pay that kind of rent. Jobs in today’s time are very difficult to come cross making life struggle for people within the poverty line.

Crime Rates in Precient 28

The percentage of crime that goes on in the neighborhood is surprisingly high. According to NYPD (New York Police Department) data shows that over 7 major felony offenses in total there have been 1048 crime committed. Having high rates could be due to struggle of instability within the neighborhood everyone feeling so separated and isolated during also after the pandemic.
