Rockaway/ Broad Channel
The neighborhood that I choose to conduct my research on is Rockaway/Broad Channel. In this research I will be looking at the racial/ ethnic, structure of this neighborhood. socioeconomic make-up, age distributions, and also I will be taking a look at data on crime and justice.
Racial/ethnic
The racial/ethnic structure of this neighborhood from the year 2021, is illustrated on the demographic graph that there are 134,700 people living in this neighborhood. Out of those 134,700 people, 35.9% are White , 29.6% are Black ,28.7% are Hispanic and 2.0% are Asian. The graph also shows that in the year 2000, Asian people only made up about 1.6% of the total population, While black people were 40.0%, White people were 37.3% and Hispanic were 17.7%. Looking at the graph we can see that over the past 21 years the black population has been reduced by about 10.4%, and white population by 1.4%. While the Hispanic population increased by 11% and Asian by 0.4%. Overall the Rockaway/ channel neighborhood is still diverse.
socioeconomic
In the Rockaway/Broad Channel the median household income in the year 2021 is $54,790. For homeowners the median household income is $108,090, for renters it was $40,910. The poverty rate is about 23.8%. People that are 65 the poverty rate is 28.9%, while for people 18 and younger the poverty rate is 27.1%. The unemployment rate is 14.21% . The labor participation rate is 54.6%.
age distributions
The age distribution in the Rockaway/Broad Channel is that 17.8% of the population is 65. Households with childrens under the age of 18 are 31.8%. People that are born in the New YorK state make up about 61.3%. While foreign born people makeup about 28.0% of the population. The disabled population makes up about 11.2% of the population.
Crime and Justice
The precinct that patrols the Rockaway/Broad Channel is the 100 precinct. In the neighborhood services and conditions graph is comparing the crime rate Citywide, Borough and in the neighborhood. Property crime rate in Rockaway/Broad Channel is 4.6%, while in Queens it is 7.1% and Citywide it is 9.0%. Violent crime rate in Rockaway/Broad Channel 4.0%. In Queens it is 3.7% and citywide it is 5.1%. In the zip code 11691 census there is about 64,913 people living there. The imprisonment population is about 370.
