Summary
Harlem, a neighborhood in New York, United States, occupies a large part of the northern part of Manhattan. More Specifically 144th Street, Between Broadway and Amsterdam was explored and analyzed. In this area we can find a variety of reputable landmarks and public spaces that allow the public to feel some parts of history. Some of these landmarks include River Bank Park, the park is known for its different activities that can be performed within its premises for example Ice Skating and Basketball apart from its immense track and football field. The area is very easy to access through public transport due to its many forms of transportation available, these range from Buses to trains and even access to many e-bikes to help get the public get around. Within the area we can also find The Johnny Hartman Plaza, This small park is named after Johnny Hartman, a successful singer best remembered for recording romantic ballads. In the Johnny Hartman Plaza, rows of benches surround the garden area bordered by trees and shrubs. Specifically in this part of Harlem we can find people from many different cultures although its population is mostly made out of African Americans and Dominicans. During the Mid 20th century Harlem was extremely dangerous because of its high poverty rate. Over the years the percentage of crimes committed within the area has drastically decreased. From my personal experience people around here tend to be friendly and try to help one another especially within the Dominican community. The number one issue with living here or in New York City in general its the amount of garbage that can be found on the streets and sidewalks and can essentially be significantly improved for better human life.
