I was not surprised about the major decrease in the homicide rate both citywide and in the 75th precinct because of the heavy police presence with foot patrols and random patrols. I also notice a slight fluctuation throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s. The 75th Precinct has really improved after the early 1990s. Citywide, the homicide rate has decreased much more than in the 75th Precinct over these recorded years.

The 75th Precinct’s homicide rate after being deemed New York City’s “killing ground” in the early 1990s, has decreased slightly more than New York citywide up until 2021.

Hi Professor, my research project will be focusing on the 75th precinct. I want to primarily focus on the decrease in gun violence within this area and how the police presence had a huge role in managing weapon-related crime in the area.
