The victims of White Collar Crime are ordinary, everyday people, which means that we all at some extent are victims of WCC. It doesn’t have to be directly from a fraud or money scam as I used to assume, we are literally victims of either air and water pollution which is a form or White Collar Crime caused by corporations and governments or from the big Pharma that in some way bribes the health care system to prescribe medications to make a profit for themselves without considering the consequences or side effects this medications can cause. I always thought that poverty was one way to measure the consequences of White Collar Crime, but as I learned more about it WCC’s are way more complex than I thought, these crimes involve governments, law enforcement agencies, corporations, our everyday jobs which in some way commit crimes by discriminating based on race and gender, so I don’t really think we can actually measure the consequences of these crimes. We can probably estimate results by doing extent research on each of the categories of WCC’s but we will never for sure will have a clear answer because of the corruption that exists within our government and agencies.
Hi Julio. I agree with your claim “…we are literally victims of either air and water pollution which is a form or White Collar Crime…” That is a very important point which should be changed. There should be a change for the better of our planet and people.
Hello Julio, I agree with you, I also didn’t know how White-Collar Crimes were. I would say that we can only expect results by making researches but not stop it.
Based on the readings, the guest lecture, and videos, I think the victims of white collar crime are regular people. They can be employees, customers, etc. Exploitation and manipulation can play a big part in WCC. Everyone is just money hungry and will do anything it takes to get that, even if it means scamming a business, their friend, and more. WCC is something that is intentional and will serve a purpose. Race and sexuality can be a part of the reason to scam. This is a business world we live in, there are many businesses in the world which do very good economically speaking. We can measure the extent of harm caused by white collar crime by using data tables or bar graphs. These can be used to measure the rate and time span of harm caused by WCC.I believe it would be an increasing measure.
Hi Amy, yeah WCC’s are intentional, they are being done in a way so they can benefit financially from those crimes, and you are right about how this happens everywhere to employees, customers, and also family members. I also agree that if we would measure these crimes it would be for sure an increasing measure.
Hello Amy, I agree with your argument. The victims of White-Collar Crimes are everybody, and we are all affected by it. People do anything to make money, no matter if they are harming somebody.
Amy, your point are interesting and I do agree on manipulation being part of WCC’s because it seem that many aren’t aware of being cheated when it comes to scamming or any type of fraud , which becomes a problem when being a target because many in theses type of situations don’t even understand how it happened.
Hi Amy, I agree with you everyone is money hungry and will do anything to succeed, a lot of scamming has been going on.
Based on the readings, guest lectures and videos, the White-Collar Crimes is a highly complicate problem that affect many part of a society. White-Collar Crimes are nonviolent crimes committed by people with power that normally people do not expect that they can commit a crime. I believe that the victims of White-Collar Crimes are everybody, and I say that because It affects people, businesses, communities and even our health care. I think that we can not measure the extent of harm caused by White-Collar crimes.
Hi Francisco, law enforcement agencies tend to focus on street crime and not WWC’s which in my opinion has a bigger impact and affects more people, I also agree that it would be very difficult to actually measure the extent of harm caused by WCC’s.
Hi Francisco. I agree that the victims of WCC can be anyone. It can literally be a family member, close friend, co-worker, etc. It is really hard to tell unless they are caught in the act, which is kind of concerning.
I agree, you made a great point WCCs affect societies especially those who aren’t aware of how they can be scam therefore many don’t even recognize that there is a crime being done out of money.
Hi Francisco
I agree with your statement that WCC highly affects our society because they think they have more power than others.
Hello Francisco,
I like that you point out that at the end of the day everyone is effected by WCC and that it’s it very difficult to measure it because it seeps everywhere.
White-collar criminals are those who are educated, wealthy and hold an important role in society. WCCs are taken seriously only by those people who have been targets or know other people who have been victims of it. WCC is an illegal act committed by non physical means to obtain an asset or to prevent the loss of assets or to gain a business or personal advantage. In other words, anyone can be a victim of WCC. The crime is committed deliberately and systematically and it takes a long time for the victims and others to understand that they have been cheated. In order to measure the extent of harm caused by white collar crime there needs to be a system of data based worldwide because we can’t really fully measure harm due to not many being aware or WCC.
Hi Vanessa, I agree with you these people commit such a crime because they know what they are doing. Also they definitely know how to target which is people who don’t know about white collar crime.
Hey Vanessa,
I agree with your statement that people that do a crime actually know why they are doing that.
The victims of the white-collar crime are regular day-to-day people, workers in all kinds of jobs people who have to rely upon their jobs and save up for life savings. I really don’t think we can measure the extent of harm
Hi Abeer, I agree with you, it is unfortunate that the people who are victims of these crimes are normal people like you and me, just looking for an opportunity to get ahead In life.
Based on the readings, the guest lecture, and videos, I think the victims of white collar crime are, people who have jobs, people who we see on daily bases, and people like our self. White collar crimes are mostly committed by businesses, skilled individuals, and government individuals because they know what they are trying to do and have more power than regular people. We cannot really measure the extent harm caused by white collar crime because we don’t have access to everyone who doesn’t know about these crimes these people commit.
Based on the readings, White Collar Crime are refers to financially motivated nonviolent crime committed by business and government professionals. It could effect society because those crime that are committed by people who enjoy power and position in the society. I don’t think we can measure extent of harm of White Collar Crime.
Hello,
The victims of white collar crime are usually people who can’t afford to fight back and are lower on the economic totem pole. They are the tenets of homes bought by Blackrock, a company that doesn’t care that their tenets have mold in their homes or other health hazards. They are the people that get defrauded by Wells Fargo. They are the people who get sick from their polluted waters and air from a company plant in the area that dumps all their waste without a second thought about the people that live there. They don’t have the money, time or other resources to fight back and defend themselves from this kind of crime. WCC, white collar crime, also doesn’t get cracked down on nearly as much as other crimes. This is likely due, in part, to the people who are the referees also doing these crimes are engaging in corruption so they have no interest in holding others accountable cause then they might be accountable. The people in power are not going to go after others in power. They don’t want to rock the boat because they are in the boat.

Hi Cuffia, I totally agree with you this is a chain these people who commit this type of crime have the money and the power to always come out clean.
The victims of white collar crime are people like us who live paycheck by paycheck. It can affect communities, charities, small businesses etc. It can affect charities that are helping peolpe who are struggling with money and are the ones that need it the most. White collar crimes are usually commited by people who have enough authority.
Unfortunately, those of us who are below the pyramid are the victims of White-collar crime, normal people, and hard workers who often bet on the intelligence of others in search of some reward or improvement. Most of us have been victims of WCC either directly or indirectly since these crimes come from people who break the stereotype of a criminal and we are not used to seeing criminals in ties and suits. It’s difficult to measure the extent of harm caused by white-collar crime because these crimes come from people with powers and a lot of money and they have the facility to always get away and manipulate the information so that it does not come to light. Power and money today are everything.
