I would study criminology for myself because I am genuinely interested in criminal behavior and the influences, especially when you see crime happen so often. Criminoogy is important because we can find the underlying reasons as why criminals behave and act a certain way. If u find the reason its easy for us to prevent it from furthering. One thing I think I will get out of studying criminology is learning different aspects of crime.
I agree with you Jainabou, the psychology behind why criminals decide to act a certain way is interesting and amusing, In addition to preventing it from happening again.
I agree with you on the point that if we find the reason as to why criminals do what they do, we can possibly prevent it from happening again. I don’t believe that it will be easy because it will definitely be challenging and a learning experience. Everyone is different and have different ways of thinking/going about things.
I agree with you I would like to know about criminal behavior and the influences too. I would like to know what caused a crime. What makes or motivates them to think in commit a crime?
I think criminology is important because it teaches us about people and those individuals who are willing to commit such acts that are not considered normal in society. I want to study criminology to learn about the psychology behind criminals and their reason and impulse to do such acts. I find it interesting and is something I enjoy learning about. I feel like I can learn about other people’s behavior, diction and make an educated guess on the reason behind their actions and words and being able to guess their next move.
I agree with your response. I am very interested in learning how criminals commit such crimes and what really triggers them to do such acts. I took a psychology class last semester which improved my knowledge on how the human brain works. It is very interesting and complex. I learned a lot of new things.
I agree with you since I believe that the importance of criminology is to understand why criminals act the way they act and think the way they think and what happened in their lives that led them to commit crimes. To understand how monsters are created in society willing to commit crimes and how to prevent cases from happening.
I agree with what you said In society its what we considered devious when someone commits a crime that is not considered normal , I also enjoy learning about that also.
I would study criminology for myself because I am genuinely interested in the topic. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved watching shows like criminal minds and investigation discovery. I loved trying to figure out who was the suspect. Some crimes are so brutal, I didn’t even know that people could be so heartless. Criminology is important because crimes exist. Everyday, somewhere in the world, there are people being killed/murdered. There are crimes to be solved everyday. I hope to learn more about how criminals minds work and what goes through their mind to make them commit such an act. Also, I would like to learn more about how to solve these crimes and how to eliminate the suspects. In addition, I would like to learn more about criminology so that maybe one day, I can prevent it by knowing all the knowledge that I know.
I share your same interest since I was little I loved to watch those shows, I was intrigued to know how a person was capable of committing crimes such as killing relatives or even hurting people they didn’t know, That is why I believe that criminology is very important as it helps us understand what leads a person to commit crimes. Something that is certain is that thousands of crimes happen every day in the world and around us and we as students can one day contribute.
I agree with your opinion on how some people can be so heartless and wanting to know the thought process behind those actions. I find it interesting how something that’s so misunderstood can make us want to understand it. We seem to share some of the same wants when it comes to why we want to learn criminology. Eliminating certain reasons behind certain acts is definitely one of mine as well. I hope you end up finding some answers through out the semester.
Hello Amy, I also was interested in tv shows about criminal minds and investigations about crimes.
Criminal minds is the reason why I wanna become an FBI agent. It inspire me and all criminal shows are fun to watch.
As Eric Beauregard says in the video crime is everywhere. I study, criminology because for me it’s interesting to know the reason for the actions that criminals take when they commit a disastrous act many times without any remorse, studying criminology gives you the opportunity to know how a criminal thinks. Criminology is important because it allows the analysis of the causes of criminal acts and antisocial behaviors, with the purpose of intervening and preventing them. Studying criminology allows me to understand that everyone is designed differently and the sociological and psychological motives behind crimes.
Hi Endrika, I agree with the point on why criminology is essential to study. Studying criminology will help us understand why criminals act the way they do. Crime is everywhere, as stated in the video, and I agree since it is a part of society, and it makes me wonder what society would be like without it.
I completely agree with your statement of “crime being everywhere” it is a very important for people to understand that it is inevitable to avoid crime. When you understand that it is easier to open your mind to what may be the possible causes of crime , and then people will want to come up with a solution.
I think criminology is important because it focuses on why people commit certain criminal acts. Which can lead to some type solution within certain communities. Instead of simply labeling the person evil and without morals, Criminology pays attention to how they may have grew up, and things they went through within their community, along with possible day to day interactions that may have lead to a certain criminal act. I think criminology is important because it has the potential to help a lot of people who may be in communities where they feel like they have to be overly aggressive, due to social norms within their community. When you study those things I think you can build solutions that make certain criminal acts not happen for certain reasons.
I agree Darius. If we focus on why people do certain crimes, we could find a solution to help the individual and also our communities. If we look at the background story of the of this person/group we can try and empathize with that and look for a more efficient way to rehabilitate and try to solve In some way the damage.
Hi Darius, you hit a very important point here when it comes to label people because of their behavior, and you are absolutely right, we should focus more on trying to understand what caused those individuals to behave the way they do, and as you mentioned above, it has a lot to do with the environment they grew up in, sometimes for these individual they commit a crime as a way to survive because there’s no other option for them, specially when you are poor and there’s no support from our government when it comes to social programs within communities.
I agree that criminology studies more in depth of the reason of why a criminal behaves and what’s the background history of the criminal.
Criminology is important because crime is everywhere and when you have the knowledge, you have the potential to able to make a change in our society. Criminology has always been so interesting to me. Being able to understand more in depth the criminal mind and the crime in our society it makes me feel like I could make an impact and try to prevent crime in any way possible.
Hi Jenssie, I feel like one way to try to reduce crime would be to focus our attention on how to eradicate poverty, poverty is one of the root causes for many other problems that leads someone to commit a crime.
Hello, Jenssie, I am strongly agreed with you when you said crime is everywhere. And you have knowledge, you can make a change. That is absolutely truth because we will have less crime in the street, and people will not be afraid to walk in certain street.
I’m very interested I studying criminology to know more about the different factors that caused someone to commit a crime, one of the main factors that leads to someone to commit a crime is poverty, but there’s many more factors I want to learn about and the psychology behind it. Criminology is important as someone in the video mentioned “crime is everywhere” whether we like it or not, so it’s important to know more about it so we are fully aware of what’s going on around us and what are the causes behind it. What I want to get out of studying criminology is to be able to work together with the top government agencies to help make changes in policies, we should be able to decriminalize drug abuse and instead of sending people to jail for drug use we should offer solutions to their mental health and offer support.
Hi Julio, I would like to agree with you about wanting to learn more about the psychological reason as to why criminals commit crime but I also believe that there may be a sociological reason as well. And I like how you added that those with drug abuse should get the help that they need to better their mental and physical health.
Hi Moraima, yeah I also believe that there’s a sociological reason behind it, I’d say that the sociological aspect is the root of the problem and the psychological aspect is a consequence to that.
What would be one policy you changed ? why? how would it reform crime ?
Hi Mika, one policy I would change is to de-criminalize drug abuse, why? because as we can see right now most of the people being incarcerated is because of drug abuse related and mostly people of color. the way it would reform crime is that instead of sending people to jail for drug abuse, people would be send to get help. Portugal is one of the countries that has this approach when it comes to drug abuse and it seems to be working.
I am highly interested in studying Criminology because this is something that has called my attention for many years. I am also a very curious person and I would like to know about criminal behaviors and what influences criminals to act as they do. It is important to study Criminology because we can find out why do crime happens and why people do commit crimes. Studying Criminology I will be able to find out by myself the reason and causes of crime and also understand the behavior of different criminals.
Hi Francisco, I’m also a very curious person and also want to know why would person commit such a crime and their intention. I agree that studying crime would also help me get a better understanding.
I would study criminology for myself because it is the study of crime and criminals. I believe that studying criminology will help me understand why criminals do what they do and what motivates them. Being a part of law enforcement in the near future will allow me to prevent crimes and pursue those who violate the law. There are a variety of sociological and psychological factors for why criminals act the way they do, and I’m interested in learning more about them by studying criminology.
Studying criminology would give me a better understanding of crime such as causes and patterns, and the societal effects that come from it. By studying this, we can find ways to prevent it, but we can never have crime come to a total stop because of the part it plays in a society like providing jobs and research for studies. Criminology is important because of how broad the study of criminal justice is in general, it gives us a starting point which is understanding the meaning of crime and the subtopics that comes with that. I think I will leave this course with better ideas on how to prevent crimes later down the line when I do decide to start my career in working with low-income youth.
I agree with you Cananya, that if we study crime we can prevent it from happening because crime is everywhere. Yes, we all can say that we will leave this class with a better understanding about crimes.
I really like your take on this! I would also love to hear more about us not being able to totally eradicate crime for financial reasons. I think that is an amazing thought with so many implications!
Studying criminology is important to study because as they stated in the video crime is everywhere. Also, it gives us a better understanding about crime and why people commit the crime that they do. One thing I think I will get out of studying criminology is learning different crimes and the outcome, also what to do in a situation if you ever committed a crime.
Yes, by seeing crime through various lenses I agree that we can gain a better understanding of why crime happens and work towards creating solutions!
Criminology is important because it gives us a deeper understanding as to why people commit such acts that are not viewed as normal in society. I study criminology because it fasinates me why individuals behave a certain way and commit such horrendous crime. In a psychological perspective as to why such crimes can be commited can be due to their up bringings in their communities or the influence in their families.
What would be considered a normal view in society as far as how people perceive criminals ?
I completely agree with you Alcira. I also believe that such crimes can be committed due to their upbringing. The people in one’s can have such a big influence without even subconsciously realizing it.
Why study criminology?
I’ve always been drawn to . The forensics behind them and all the evidence left behind. Also social media tracing. I took forensics my last year of high school and it was so interesting. I often watch the true-crime channel that’s not the accurate name for it but I honestly can’t recall right now . I watched a few serial killer documentaries recently that not only studied their mental state but whether their physical attributes helped or hindered the way they went about committing crimes also their emotional state from the mouth of the killers themselves.I want to know more. I want to figure it out .
I agree with you mike we share the same interest Im also always watching different documentaries because there always something that causes too do their crimes which is quite interesting from their views on why they do what they do.
I would study criminology because I plan on working in pre-trial or reentry work. In order to make some of these profound changes within our system it is important to have data. By looking at the ways crime happens and the why’s and how’s and where’s we can begin to take preventative steps towards a just and fair system for the individuals we essentially serve. This information can be used to create policy that is humane and beneficial.
I agree, with you when you study criminology you helping in decreasing crimes and its a way to create data or patterns to see where you can catch the cause.
I would study criminology for myself because I always had an interest in figuring out the factors of why there are so many crimes happening. The study of criminology is important because it’s about the causes of crime related to psychological, biological, or even social factors. When you study criminology you play an important role in the reduction of criminal activities. Criminologists are responsible for understanding the criminals and discovering ways to decrease crimes. One thing I would get out of studying criminology is to understand the mindset of criminals, why they commit crimes, and the factors that affect them.
Pique of curiosity, what do you want to be in the future? Im only asking because you said you had an interest about crime rates and as I read that I thought of a detective or private investigator for some odd reason.
Hello everyone, my name is Carlos. Criminology is the study of the effect, prevention, control and causes of criminal behavior on individual people and on society. It is important to study criminology to understand the reasoning behind the minds and actions of criminals. Studying criminology also helps society prevent certain things from happening and helps reform certain issues involving criminals and the criminal justice system.
Hi Carlos, I agree with what you said about helping society prevent certain things from happening. I feel as though criminology can help understand why certain acts were or can be committed. This gives law enforcement the opportunity to analyze the background and the crime and possibly prevent in the future.
For myself, I want to study criminology because I want to get a better understanding of what factors can lead to someone committing a crime. For example, on factor may include their environment such as their home or community. Criminology is important because it allows all aspects of the crime to be analyzed, from the person committing the crime to the society around them, even the psychology behind it. I believe that from studying criminology I would get to comprehend deviant behavior and what causes it.
Brianna, I like that you said “it allows all aspects of crime to be analyzed”. In that sense this is similar to forensic science, or “criminalistics” which has to do with the collection and analyzation of data. I feel like the two should go hand in hand when taking up one. One psychological, one statistical. But I definitely agree with the idea that environmental factors can induce deviant behavior.
Criminology is important for individuals to comprehend, control, and reduce crimes. I study criminology for myself so I can understand the reason and behavior behind the actions of deviants. It’ll give me insight as to what causes them to behave a certain way and make such choices that place them where they are in society. By really studying it and expanding my knowledge on the topic, I’ll recognize and perceive crime in a completely different way than that of a civilian or even individuals who remains complacent to what lurks in the shadows of the criminal world.
I agree with your statement Dorian. It should be important to learn of other people behaviors and why they behave like that.
I’m studying criminology because it’s mandatory of majoring criminal justice. I’m willing to learn new things for criminal justice subject. Every information is important for a criminal major.
I’m interested in criminology because it’s a study of crime, and I’d like to learn more about criminal behavior and how it comes in many forms. As a student majoring in Criminal Justice, criminology is a core requirement. I must know about the biological, psychological, and social elements contributing to crime, such as socioeconomic position. These majors look at crime in a variety of settings, from communities to countries. I’d like to understand any form of crime, such as murders, studied throughout time. In addition, I want to strengthen my research skills as part of the process in the future.
Criminology helps society understand, control, and reduce crime. It helps to understand that mentality of crime. Criminology helps to understand the mentality of criminals, why they commit crimes and the thing that affects them. It helps to control and proper distribution of wealth.
