Adama Bah Post #8 morality

Analyzing moral dilemma from The movie “The Return (2003)

The moral dilemma in the movie lies between the boys staying safe or saving their father’s life. The possible outcome of this dilemma varies depending on the seven moral positions Zvyagintsev, 2018). For instance, an unjust father creates hatred that could make Ivan and his brother unconcerned with his accident. The sons develop temperance that creates hatred against their unfriendly father. On the other hand, humanity and transcendence change the two boys to love their father. With courage, the younger son swims to go and check on him, only to find he is dead and cannot be found.

I would follow the father’s instructions during boat riding in this situation. Riding without giving up shows persistence in overcoming the stormy waves in the ocean. Adherence to instruction shows respect despite their father being cruel in his commands.

The moral value of this movie trailer is the free will to make a choice based on libertarianism. Despite the past challenges, the sons need to make peace with their dad during his accident and death. Peace relieves them of the temperance that has been part of their lives.

My thought based on the trailer is that peace is a source of emotional growth that should never get despised. Negative past experiences deprive one of love and happiness to live in harmony. Therefore, making peace is a source of restoration that eradicates negative emotions and signifies a new beginning.
