The paradox of choice by Barry Schwartz conclusion was that having too many options can be a negative thing. He explained how it raises your expectations to the point where you can’t get satisfied. The author explained his experience with having too many jean options and how in the end it still didn’t satisfy him, even though he felt like he picked the best jeans there.
He also explains how with too many options people just end up not picking anything, making them lose opportunities. “You offer 50 funds — 10 percent fewer employees participate than if you only offer five. Why? Because with 50 funds to choose from, it’s so damn hard to decide which fund to choose, that you’ll just put it off till tomorrow, and then tomorrow and then tomorrow and tomorrow, and, of course, tomorrow never comes. Understand that not only does this mean that people are going to have to eat dog food when they retire because they don’t have enough money put away, it also means that making the decision is so hard”
I agree with the speaker because yes it is a good thing to have that freedom to decide from many options, but that comes with its disadvantages. I experience this myself to where I get overwhelmed with all the options, I just end up not choosing or I would just pick randomly. Too many options can discourage you.
“You Try To Live on 500K in This Town” by Allen Salkin conclusion is that your surroundings can pressure you. Expressing that in whatever environment you’re in and you want to fit in, you’ll do whatever to fit in. “People inherently understand that if they are going to get ahead in whatever corporate culture they are involved in, they need to take on the appurtenances of what defines that culture,” she said. “So if you are in a culture where spending a lot of money is a sign of success, it’s like the same thing that goes back to high school peer pressure. It’s about fitting in.”
I agree with the writer because people sometimes try and change the way they are just to fit in. Social media has definitely increased peer pressuring to where people would get insecure because of how other people appear to be living or how they look. So many take that and feel the need to live like them or to look them.

Hi Lissett I agree with you and I do exactly what you do! I am overwhelmed by options and finally I do choose randomly. We also agree that it is good to have options, however this is also a huge disadvantage. It makes us anxious, stressed when it comes to making decisions.
