In “The paradox of choice”, the speaker Barry Schwartz conclusion was that choices make things more complicated. The speaker’s premises are that choices produces paralysis rather than liberation, choices make it very difficult for people to choose at all, and that when we are given more choices, we end up less satisfied with the results of the choice we end up picking.
I read the article “From the ‘perfect’ salary to keeping up with the Joneses, here’s how money really affects your happiness”, I don’t believe that this article is making an argument but instead, it is telling us the ways that money can affect our happiness. A point presented to support this claim is that purpose is more important than money, when it comes to happiness. Another point presented is that the things you spend your money on affects your happiness too.
I agree with Barry Schwartz conclusion that choices make things more complicated. One of my own premises to support his conclusion is that the more choices, the more we lose vision of the actual purpose. Another premise is that choices can cause us to become greedy and spoiled in a way, and also choices get us used to a certain standard, that can not always be fulfilled.

Hello Sofia! I do agree with your statement and premises about Barry Schwartz video. As you said, while we make choices sometimes we don’t even think about the actual purpose. Simply we have too many of choices which makes us overwhelmed. Also the high standards we do have as people nowadays, makes us unsatisfied with almost every decision.
hey Sofia, yes you are right it is true when you have so many choices to chose from your standards can not always be fulfilled i mean you might like all the choices but you cant get it all in one so it gets hard for you to chose that why some people get multiple things of the same product. they might get it because they saw the product in multiple colors and they like them all and couldn’t chose so they got it in all colors which is a waiste of money. it just seems addicting i don’t know.
I agree with what you said about losing the actual purpose and becoming greedy. It’s really bad sight to see when people make these choices we choose whats the better then what really matters. Barry talked about the topic about getting married and he said the secret to happiness is “low expectations”. As you said people get so worked up about what’s better or I need to have it just signals high expectation requirements because they are blinded by that fact.
Hi Sofia,
I agree with your statement that “the more choices, the more we lose vision of the actual purpose.” Also too many options can discourage, as you said we end up less satisfied because of how high our expectations are.
Hey Sofia , I certainly do agree with your idea and what the argument as well as the premises was in Barry Schwartz video. The more choices we are allowed to the more likely it is for us as people to lose vision of the actual purpose, I agree 1000%
Hello Sofia I agree with your premise that choices can make us greedy and spoiled. When new computer parts come out, I look to see just how good they are compared to previous versions. I always set my expectations too high and end up being disappointed even though the performance increase is good, it’s just not to the level I wanted for the increase in price.
