What is COIL?

Collaborative Online International Learning is a form of virtual exchange that emphasizes the collaborative element. COIL was founded by Professor Jon Rubin at SUNY, and since 2006, the SUNY COIL Center has been a leader in virtual exchange. Telecollaboration, online intercultural exchange and globally networked learning are also forms of virtual exchange.

The articles below provide more history on COIL and a summary of the benefits (from our own BMCC faculty, Deniz Gokcora).

Learn about COIL at other CUNY schools, and join the CUNY COIL Academic Commons to be part of the larger community.
