Retention Assignment

  1. I think the most demotivating part of Harper’s job is the extra workload and lack of support. Harper has had to take on additional workload since her former boss left. This caused her to feel overwhelmed by the task she did at and away from work. Also, she isn’t receiving the same support from her old boss because there are more people to manage.
  2. The advice I would give to David is to ask Harper frequently how she is feeling. Helping her create positive work life balance. And give frequent thank you and shout out to the employees. This may make her feel valued about the job she is doing.
  3. The downside of losing Harper as an employee is you lose ‘employee retention benefits like higher productivity, higher employee morale, employee loyalty, and a positive company culture.

The Founder’s Assignment

  1. What makes Ray Kroc and the brothers different from each other?

Ray Croc and the brothers are different from each other is terms of the mindset of running a business. Ray Kroc’s vision for McDonalds was to try and expand and saw potential for growth in the business. Some of his plans were to cut the cost of production, try new products, get sponsors and open more stores to expand business and revenue growth. While the McDonald’s brothers were not interested in expanding their initial business. They wanted to just improve the one store they had and didn’t see a reason for expanding.

  1. Do you think the McDonald’s brothers did the right thing by selling out to Ray Kroc? Did Ray Kroc give the brothers a good deal?

I don’t believe in selling out a business that a family started is a good thing. In the business aspect of things I do believe the McDonalds brother made the correct decision by selling out its rights to Ray Kroc. Kroc’s vision for McDonald’s was to grow and expand. He was willing to take increased risk to grow and expand. But the way Kroc was running his own McDonalds franchises were negatively impacting the brothers as they didn’t see eye to eye on different aspects on the business side.

Ray did not give the brothers a great deal. I believe to brother should have gotten a portion of the sales revenue from mcDonalds.

  1. How did the local store franchisees make money?

Local franchisees made money by speeding up production in business making fast food, cutting cost of production and adding new product to their menu.

  1. How did Kroc make money? How was that different than the franchisees, running the local stores?

Kroc made money by investing into real estate. He would use this real estate company to buy land and then sell or rent it to franchisees. Who then has to pay him a percent of sells. He used this money to buy out the McDonalds brother. This is different from the franchisee running local business because they no longer have to bear the full cost of buying land and products. It also give him power to control all McDonald’s franchisees.

  1. Does this film change your view of McDonald’s?

This film changes my view of McDonald’s because it shows that taking the opportunities to growth and expand can be beneficial in the long run. Also, that expanding business into different field can give you some type of self security.

The company that I am going to talk about is Amazon.com.Amazon is referred to as “one of the most influential economic and cultural forces in the world”. Amazon is a conglomerate in it include sectors like e-commerce, cloud computing, entertainment, and logistics. Like most of the population I shop on Amazon. I am also employed by Amazon. Amazon plays a big role in society today. They also take important steps in regard to social responsibility and pursuing sustainable business practices to help reduce the impact of their business and better communities.

Amazon being one of the world’s biggest companies must play a big and important role in social responsibility. In fact, they do find ways to be socially responsible in communities. On the homepage of their website in our approach section it says “We focus on addressing immediate needs, such as reducing hunger and homelessness, providing affordable housing, and serving communities in need following natural disasters. We also look to the future, by providing programs that support science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and skills training”. Amazon should look expand more socially responsible I other areas of the world. I would recommend that they look at trying to help end hunger in the world.

Amazon has faced a lot of backlashes in the past and present for how they are not using sustainable business practices. A company of that size plays a major role in the climate change crisis. According to an article from the Verge amazon’s greenhouse gas emissions grew 18% in 2021 compared to 2020.Amazon has made a pledge to reach net zero carbon carbon dioxide emissions by 2040. Calma 2022. My recommendation to reduce carbon footprint is to focus on the use of renewable energy. I work there and I see so changes they are making like adding more electric delivery vans to their fleets and the use of more renewable energy.

There is always room for improvement when it come to social responsibility and pursuing sustainable business practices. Companies always find ways to improve their role in these issues. After all it benfits the public and companies positively.
