Retention

  • What do you think is the most demotivating part of Harper’s job?

I believe that the post demotivating part of harper’s job is that she has unwillingly take on extra work and it’s affecting her life outside of work because she may now not have any time for herself. She doesn’t have any help or any form of guidance from her boss. She also is not being appreciated for the work that she does do. Harper is basically working two jobs.

  • If you were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David, what advice would you give to help David re-engage Harper?

My advice to David would be to schedule one on one times with each employee to establish personal work goals and expectations that need to be met. I would also advise him to manage his time better because he should be able to atleast have some time to help/guide Harper until the position is filled. I also advise that he have a Group meeting to keep everyone on track and maybe split up the work that Harper has been managing to balance out everyone’s schedule and not have her do everything.

  • What would be the downside of losing Harper as an employee?

I believe that the company would be at a loss because Harper proves to be a great employee and a team player. This will also leave two positions to be filled and two persons who may need training and this will result in decreased productivity. While the company is in the hiring process both Harper and Jose’s work would have to be completed by someone else which will most likely cause the same issue.

The Founder Reflection

What makes Ray Kroc and the brothers different from each other?I believe what makes Ray Kroc and the brothers different from each other is that though the McDonald’s brothers did want to make a profit their main goal was to provide reliable and fast customer service and a good product. However, Ray Kroc was more interested in turning a profit to the point where to cut down production costs and production time he would substitute the ingredients in a milkshake.

Do you think the McDonald’s brothers did the right thing by selling out to Ray Kroc? Did Ray Kroc give the brothers a good deal?
i believe they did the right thing but went about it the wrong way. I do believe they did the right thing by selling out to Ray Kroc because he brought the business to greater heights and though he was deceitful he was also a businessman and he knew how to build it up. He saw a golden opportunity and built on it. The brothers weren’t confident in franchising because the other branches didn’t have the same flavors and routine that made it what it was. I think they went about it the wrong way because they had too much trust in ray to not screw them over and the rights to sell the mcdonalds method because they weren’t benifitting from this deal. The only benefit they had was when Ray bought them out for 2.7 but even they were still being cheated.

How did the local store franchisees make money? The Local store franchises made money by using the same method and recipes from the original Mcdonald’s restaurant

How did Kroc make money? How was that different than the franchisees, running the local stores? Kroc made money by leasing the land to franchisees and only allowing them to lease from him. In these agreements, he was in control of everything from the menus, to how customers should be serviced and he had control over all franchises and how they operated.

Does this film change your view of McDonald’s? This film does change my view on Mcdonald’s because now I’m thinking about all the substituted ingredients and how it would have been if the original brothers were in charge. Though it may not have been as big as it is now I believe it would have been more authentic.

The Ethical Apple

I interact with many different companies daily, however, I chose apple because I have many apple products which I use almost 24/7. Apple is a multibillion-dollar company. Apple is a hardware and software company known for creating the iPad, iPod, iPhone, iMac, MacBook, and much more. The company is also known for their unique designs and modern innovation. This is at the forefront of their business but i am about to shine the light on their ethical practices and how they give back.

Being that apple is a multi-billion dollar company and based on the products they provide you would assume their carbon footprint would be extremely high but compared to other companies Apple’s carbon footprint is limited. according to a article written by asktraders.com most of apples carbon foot print is a product of manufacturing and device usage. However, because of this they have implemented a goal to make apple devices carbon neutral and should be followed out by year 2030. Not to include the eco-friendly offices that have already been implemented. Therefore, Apple is attempting to remove as much CO2 as they put out if not more.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cooks in regards to ethics and compliance ” We do the right thing, even when it’s not easy”. Is sustainability easy? In my opinion, No. It is hard to create products that can be reused multiple times. However, Apple has created a solution to maintain their products and allow them a great lifespan. The company allows you to trade in your old product and pay the difference for a new product but it doesnt end there. When the product is traded in Apple then recycles the product but if qualified can be sold again and used just as before.

For as long as I’ve known there has been much discriminatory behavior when hiring in the workplace, however, Apple has been an equal opportunity company. According to the ask trader article “Between 2014 and 2020 the number of employees from underrepresented communities (URCs) increased by 64%. That’s 18,000 people and jobs and URC staff now make up nearly 50% of Apple’s American workforce.” This is inclusive of the black, hispanic, and female employees. Not only that but they are also expanding into more leaderships roles.

In conclusion, There are many steps that Apple is making to benefit the environment. However, I believe for Apple to create a more socially responsible business it to get out there and be active in the different communities. Invest in more outreach programs that can help build up the economy and their business as well. On paper Apple may seem like the perfect company but there is more that can ad should be done.
