Retention Assignment

  1. I believe the most demotivating part of Harper’s job is the unfortunate turn of events in her job. Her old boss Jose left the company and she was unhappy because of that. Her old boss had really good communication and always kept everyone specifically Harper in the loop of things. Once he left Harper had to take on an extra amount of workload. Her new boss David is not like Jose, especially with communication. All of this affects Harper and makes her feel like she is not a valued worker because none of her work is being noticed.
  2. If I were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David, I would advise him to break the ice and try to get to know his new team. David could speak out on what his expectations are for the team, and then allow the team to ask any questions or voice their concerns. He could also have a one on one talk with Harper to see where is her head is at, and they can work on a plan to get her back on track. Since she is doing the responsibility of her old supervisor David could possibly offer Harper a promotion. This will help her feel acknowledge and will also compensate her for all the extra work she has been doing for the company.
  3. A downside of losing Harper as an employee would be the cost of having to find a new employee for the company, and having to train them for the role. This could also be a huge set back for the company because they will have to pick up the work. They are also losing out on a knowledgable employee, that was dedicated and put in the work.

The Founder Assignment

What makes Ray Kroc and the brothers different from each other?

The difference between Ray Kroc and the brothers was how they ran their business. Ray Kroc was more of a big businessman, meaning he thought about bigger things and wanted to create a sort of empire. He wanted to open up multiple chains, whereas, the brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald would rather just open up one to three restaurants. They worked smaller and thought opening just a couple restaurants would be better than a bunch because they can focus on elevating those restaurants and it fit their lifestyle better.

Do you think the McDonald’s brothers did the right thing by selling out to Ray Kroc?

I do believe the McDonald’s brothers did do the right thing, by selling out to Ray Kroc because Ray Kroc was able to expand the company more than what it was since the brothers did not want to do that from the start. I would say the one thing the brothers did wrong was giving all the rights of the company to Ray Kroc. Since they did this they would not benefit from anything regarding the company, ie; the royalties the company makes.

How did the local store franchisees make money?

Before the local store franchisees would only have to pay a franchise fee, so they could keep all the profit from what they made in the store minus the fees they had to pay. That allowed them to make more money, but Ray Kroc changed that later on and started making all franchisees lease the land instead of just paying a fee.

How did Kroc make money? How was that different than the franchisees, running, the local stores?

Ray Kroc would make his money by using the restaurant as a showcase to sell the McDonald’s franchise to the country. With every franchise, he sold he would make 1.9% of the gross sales from that franchise, and he would give the company McDonald 0.05%

Does this film change your view of McDonald’s?

No, the film doesn’t really change my view of McDonald’s, it just helps knowing more of the background of what made this multimillion dollar company so successful.

Ethics Writing Assignment:

After reading the assignment instructions I knew I definitely wanted to use a company I love and use on a day-to-day basis, honestly, it came down to Amazon everyone’s favorite place to shop at, or Chipotle my favorite place to eat.

Chipotle is an American restaurant chain that is most popular for its DIY rice bowls, burritos, tacos, and other dishes. Chipotle is very transparent when it comes to its policies and practices as a company. The company has been known for its sustainable business practice and community service.

Chipotle is known for making its food with organic fresh produce, and when having 3,000 restaurants and serving millions of people the company wants to be as transparent as they can with their consumers. This year, Chipotle released to the press their Environmental, Social, and Governance goal. They are committed to increasing the pounds of organic local, and grown and raised food used in its restaurant. This year chipotle wants to surpass its number in 2021, which was 55 million pounds up to 57 million pounds. Chipotle has opened a campaign to support the “National Young Farmers Coalition”, they are advocating for policy change in 2023 Farm Bill. By adding your name to the campaign people are advocating for Congress to invest $2.5 Billion to secure up to one million acres of land for the generation of farmers. Along with that Chipotle wants to reduce its greenhouse emissions by 5% this year. The company’s main goal is to reduce its complete greenhouse emissions by 50% by 2023.

Chipotle also contributes to helping the community by partnering with different organizations for fundraisers. Chipotle donates to schools from K-12 which help contribute to STEM clubs, and school activities such as prom. They also donate to University Groups which help with their Intramural Sports, News Radio, and more. So far Chipotle has raised $87 Million so far, they have hosted around 303,000 fundraisers, and 33% of the event sales are given back to the cause of choice.

After reading more about chipotle and who they are as a company, I would say to stay transparent with everything they are doing. The more transparent they are with their consumers the more consumers would like them and be loyal to their brand as well as trust them.
