Extra Credit Option: TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD (10 possible points; 1 per week)
Students may earn extra points by filling out our TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD form once weekly for one (1) point each week, for a total of ten (10) points total throughout the course of the semester.

This form is an easy way for students to receive extra credit in BUS 104: Introduction to Business, and it’s super simple. Just “Tell Me Something Good” that happened to you this week. This could be simple: you got a great night’s sleep, or you found a coupon code online that saved you some money on whatever you needed to purchase, or your submission could be something much more substantial: you got a promotion, you’re expecting a child, you found a $20 bill on your way into work. Whatever it is, I want to hear about it and help you celebrate these wins, big or small.

Students are encouraged to submit a response to this form weekly, and in return they will receive one (1) extra credit point added on to their final grade. This form can be submitted once per week up to ten (10) times (!) for an additional ten (10) points on a student’s final grade (that’s enough to bring you from a B- to a B, all for bragging about what’s going well for you!).

Submissions may be shared in our weekly BUS 104: Introduction to Business class newsletter so please only share in this form what you’d be comfortable with your classmates knowing. Congratulations on whatever wins — big or small — you’re experiencing this week.

Okay, I think I need to give some context to fully emphasize how much this interaction meant to me, so here goes. Full disclosure, I’ve seen some stuff. Traumatic experiences that no one should have to go through, let alone a child. Violence, gore, hostility from gangs. Unspeakable things. I grew up in Bangladesh for 13 years before coming to America and I’ve been going to a non-profit organization called Project Rousseau for a little over a year and a half now, since about June of 2021. I was talking to the founder, Andrew Rousseau, earlier this week and I mentioned how I’d like to volunteer there one day soon since they’ve helped me so much and I’ve come so far because of them. And he said sure. I was absolutely awestruck.

To give some more context, I’ve been out of school since I was 11 years old. I used to go to the number one English Medium School in Dhaka, the capital of the country. My father was a Chief Marine Engineer and my mother was a Supreme Court Lawyer. Long story short, things happened and I developed P.T.S.D, Anxiety Disorder, and Depression. But then I finally improved myself and came out of that rut and I’m going back to school again. So having him acknowledge all of my accomplishments and actually letting me volunteer was quite frankly a life-changer. I can’t wait to start working there in the summer after I finish this semester and start helping others.
