As you are aware, BMCC transitioned to D2L’s Brightspace LMS at the start of the Summer 2024 semester. All current BMCC courses are now on Brightspace, and earlier this semester, CUNY began hosting mandated compliance training on Brightspace.
CUNY’s Blackboard contract ends on December 18, 2025, at which time access to Blackboard will be discontinued. CUNY Computing and Information Services (CUNY CIS) will continue to maintain archival copies of courses as required by university policy and by applicable law. Please be aware that university archives contain course content and student work only. University archives do not retain copies of Blackboard Collaborate sessions. Access to archival Blackboard content is limited to administrative requests in cases such as challenges or litigation. Please retain your own copies of your Blackboard courses if you wish to have access to course materials that have not already been transferred to Brightspace (see below for instructions).
Course materials from Spring 2021 through Spring 2024 have been copied to Brightspace (they should appear under “All” under “My Courses” on your Brightspace homepage), but you may have older courses in Blackboard that have not been copied to Brightspace. If you wish to reuse these course materials, we recommend that you retain personal copies. You will need to download materials needed from Blackboard by December 15, 2025.
We have posted instructions on how to archive your old Blackboard courses, which guide you through the steps for finding old courses and downloading .zip files with the course materials. These materials can then be imported to Brightspace when you are ready to use them.
If you have any questions or need assistance with this process, please email defacsupport@bmcc.cuny.edu or join us on Zoom during our Faculty Drop-in Hours.
