The BMCC Faculty Collaboratory (CoLab) provides a collegial, cross-disciplinary space for BMCC faculty to enhance their activities as teachers and scholars, thereby enhancing student engagement, success, and retention. The Faculty CoLab supports faculty professional development by bringing together existing programs, departments, and initiatives to create a unified physical and virtual space for faculty to discuss teaching and learning, scholarship, digital pedagogy, career development, and other topics related to their role as faculty members.
To carry out its mission the CoLab:
- Supports and facilitates community building among faculty
- Encourages a culture of reflection on teaching and learning
- Fosters the effective and innovative use of digital technologies to support teaching, learning, and scholarship
- Provides a forum for faculty to share research, creative work, and teaching experiences across disciplines
- Creates opportunities for faculty to serve as pedagogical leaders
- Partners with other programs and departments to serve as a hub for faculty professional development at BMCC
