Blog Post Guidelines

Please keep the guidelines below in mind as you develop your blog post:

  • Blog posts should be between 400-600 words and written in an informal, conversational style.
  • Posts may address topics related to teaching and learning, your experience conducting research or developing creative work, or your role as a BMCC faculty member, and should be relevant to a broad, cross-disciplinary audience.
  • Authors are requested to include a short bio (3 – 4 sentences) and a current photo or avatar, which should be square shaped or easily cropped to a square shape.
  • Authors may select an image that represents the subject of the post. The image must be in the public domain, have a license that permits reuse (e.g. a Creative Commons license), or have been created by you. If you do not select an image, the editorial team will select one.
  • You may include additional images and/or files that are relevant to your blog post. For example, if you are writing about a classroom practice, you might want to include supporting documents, such as an example of an assignment. These materials must be in the public domain, have a license that permits reuse (e.g. a Creative Commons license), or have been created by you.
  • Blog posts will be reviewed and edited by our editorial team of faculty and staff. To facilitate this process, please use an online platform such as Google Docs, Dropbox, or Sharepoint to submit your initial draft.
  • When your post has been finalized, it will be added to the publication schedule. The publication date will depend on a number of factors, including whether there are other posts in the queue. You will be notified when your blog post is published.
