Some examples of new literacies are podcast, photo sharing, story telling, and conducting online searches.
Surprisingly, none of the examples of new literacies surprise me because they are all a form of literacy. We communicate and learn information through gossip with our peers, word of mouth, and social media. And as stated in the doc, even games use books and history as ideas. When there are things we don’t know, we are always quick to google whatever question we need answers.
From this week assigned reading I learned that literacy once again is always evolving. The use of the old technology to learn becomes more and more outdated as the years progressed. The more new technologies arise the more the newer generations will be accustomed to that. They also found that with the technology out now it helps students actually access their work easier, despite the few who doesn’t have access to technology.
From this weeks Ted Talk, I learned about how fast information actually travels. Something as simple as taking a beach picture with your child can go viral, and made bigger than what it really is when you catch the right audience. In order to develop digital literacies you need to not only focus on the interests of people, but use those interest to motivate them to focus on important issues.
New literacies that have helped me with schooling have been conducting online searches, social media, and video games. I am google queen when it comes to things I do not know. Google is extremely helpful even if all the information may not be accurate, google gives you multiple answers. Video games helped me with history, most of the war games include history that has actually happened and it includes a lot of dates and characters and big eaters to be aware off. And social media, helped me because my peers are always useful with keeping me up to date. I can easily type a question on my Facebook status, and out of all my friends a good amount of them will come rushing commenting answers.
Having to help someone with new literacies who was not tech savvy was a little annoying. Even though I fully understood that they were completely new to it, in the back of my mind I couldn’t stop thinking “in this day in age you should know this like the back of your hand.” But after a while after a few practices they finally got the hang of it and t wasn’t as bad.
One new literacy I can not live without would be conducting research through YouTube. I am so big on do it yourself, so if there is something I need to visually see in order to learn YouTube is my best friend. You can literally learn anything from YouTube its amazing how technology works..

Hello Keyana,
I agree with you how useful Google is when it comes looking for information, regardless if some of that information may be false because Google still provides you with multiple sources of information and answers to look at as you wrote. For this reason, I believe Google is another form of new literacies I cannot live without along with YouTube which I feel helps a lot when you are trying to learn something as you mentioned. Also, I believe video games have also helped me with history too because the games I have played taught me, using their own methods, about the history of certain wars and the weapons utilized in them. Also, about important figures in history. Overall, thank you for sharing your post and have a nice day!
