- What did you learn about new literacies from this week’s video “The essential elements of digital literacies” and from the reading “Dawn of new literacies”?
I learned about the 8 essential elements which are Cg(Cognitive), Cn(Constructive), Co(Communicative), Ci(Civic), Ct(Critical), Cr(Creative), Cf(Confident), and finally Cu(Cultural). - Consult our class glossary under course profile-docs. Find one example of new literacies that surprised you and/ or that you disagree with.
Answer: Ethnography I somewhat disagree with it because the study when it comes to certain individuals or a culture sure a lot of the time the culture could be similar to a individuals case but not all cases have to relate to that one culture for example chinese culture. - How can we apply Szwed’s and Perry’s definitions of literacy as we study new literacies?
Answer: The concepts of literacy provided by Szwed and Perry give lenses through which we might examine emerging literacies in a holistic and flexible manner. They inspire us to broaden our notion of literacy beyond traditional text-based abilities and to appreciate literacy’s dynamic character in the digital age. This wide viewpoint is critical for researching, teaching, and adjusting to the ever-changing world of emerging literacies. - What are some “new literacies” that have helped you with your schooling? Explain.
Answer: Digital Literacy because nowadays everything when it comes to information access personal experiences, classes, online payments do help because its not the same as before where you had to go to for example the library for books, in person payments by mail so digital literacy does help because 1 its less time consuming and helps me more because I’m more of a conservative person. - Have you ever had to help someone with technology (new literacies) who was not tech savvy? What was that experience like?
Answer: Yes I have with my parents because my parents are both not educated as much when it comes to school so its harder for them to learn/adapt to new stuff let a lot technology so they have a lot of problems with technology/online payments which I do help them with nowadays. - What is ONE “new literacies” that you cannot live without?
Answer: Digital Literacy because nowadays everything is on the internet so without the internet literacy might not be as accessible as before. - Explain your personality using ONLY three emojis – what would they be?

Hello Andy, it is interesting to see the emojis that you pick on your answer. One of my emojis also has a computer. Digital literacies have become essential for our society nowadays. Everyday there are new ways of technology being applied to the learning process, there is a whole new perspective of reading and writing that comes with it. Researching and looking for new information has become more accessible over the years for those with the opportunity to use technology.
